Is time to be talking about a replacement for Rush?
Dennis Prager
Not time yet but speculation will run wild anyway.
Let’s see who would be great to follow “El Rushbo”.
1. Mark Steyn - Very smart, educated, funny as can be, and sharp as a commando’s knife when sticking leftists and fools.
2. Prager is good but I haven’t heard him in years.
3. I like some of the other fill-ins including Matthews and Todd Herman. Would be nice to have them as regular fill-ins, say a couple days a week.
4. Chris Plante of WMAL 630 AM, DC. He’s as sharp and funny as Steyn, and takes no prisoners, esp. leftist fools.
Our talent pool is very good so I have no objection to being exposed to a range of hosts because each one has their own style, experiences, and strong points.
Here, DIVERSITY is a good thing.
Agreed, clear channel will move on but that doesn’t mean EIB is done.
Levin’s voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I really can’t stand to listen to his bursts of rage. The only time I tune in is when he is interviewing someone of interest. Secondly, Rush was a Christian, and while he did not talk about it, the essence came through. Those principles are what the Constitution was founded upon, and we need to preserve a core of Christian thinkers, even though the left has purposely used immigration to marginalize the foundational people, creed and philosophy.
To try to replace an uniquely singular man with another man (or woman—please, no) is going to lose many regulars. No one person is going to be able to step up to Rush’s level of output any time soon. You’ve possibly seen this in business, when a uniquely talented and productive employee finally becomes so threatening to the boss simply by doing his or her best, cheerfully, that the boss picks a fight and gets rid of him or her—and then it takes three or four people to replace him or her.
If the format changes to “all conservatives, from a variety of voices”, the variety is more likely to hold the most of the audience, and continue to attract more listeners as older ones fall away.
I can't tell if you are colossally stupid, or an awesome troll. After research, I've come down on the side that you are an awesome troll.
Ditto to your post!
FWIW, Only Mark Levin has the intellectual capacity to even come anywhere near the likes of Rush. But many days Levin goes off the deep end and gets too crazy for [even] me. Jes sayin’
That would be the best tactic, I think.
Someone unexpected, out of left field such as Drew Carey?
Just prayed for Dan, and he will now always be in my prayers for wellness in mind and body.
Amen!
They’re going to play reruns for three months?
That is guaranteed to drive off Rush’s audience—which may be what they want.
Rush of course was a college dropout with a colossal ego and an irreverent, vicous sense of humor.
My guess: They will run “best of” shows with guest hosts for a month or three, to give affiliates time to figure out what to do with the slot. Then the show is over. Face it folks, Rush WAS the show. Without Rush is no Rush Limbaugh show. Everything good must come to an end, it seems.
Many of us are still mourning, even though we knew it was coming. I’ve listened to rush since he first went national. For over half my life he has been there.
It is going to be quite an adjustment to get used to the world being a Rush free zone.
Mega Dittos!
Steyn has already proven himself. I vote for him. I think even our beloved Rush would approve.
Of course no one can completely take Rush’s place, but I would still pick Steyn.
Still hard to believe we will not be hearing Rush’s opening music and his so distinctive voice.
Pray for us, Rush, please.
Levin would be fine for some conservatives and unthinkable for others.
Their names floating around makes no difference at all, anyhow......because WHY would each of these two guys desert the lush, high-paying jobs they have NOW to laboriously toil three hours a day, five days a week year-round on a radio program.......not to mention the onerous preparation time Rush had to put in ???
Ain't gonna happen.
The radio honchos who produced Rush's program will look for a contemporary, much younger, promising and popular radio or TV host, rest assured.
Leni
True, no one can replace him.
I vote Steyn.
I agree that Mark Steyn is not a perfect replacement for Rush, he is a good substitute host. One of Rush's most recognizable assets is his unshakeable optimism, his positivity. When he was reminded that he would tell his listeners when to panic, and current events might be a reason to panic, Rush replied that he would never say to panic, that his belief in the American people was unshakeable.
Mark Steyn appears to lack that unshakeable optimism. He lingers sometimes on the things that are wrong, will linger on the negatives which Rush never did.
Also, I have questioned whether Steyn would commit to 3 hours a day, five days a week, day in and day out ad infinitim.
I suspect that it will be difficult to find a direct replacement for Rush, AND only a direct replacement could attain to the solid heights that Rush struggled to reach. I doubt that it would be impossible - just difficult.
Leni you are totally right. That is EXACTLY what they will try to do. They will try to “replace” Rush with someone younger.
They don’t get that as I wrote in my piece the other day, “Rush Limbaugh: End of an Era,” the very thing Rush did has now died with him, namely, analysis of news.
He said it. “There is no news anymore.” Seriously, I wonder if he had gone on for another year or two if his listeners would have stayed, because Rush was getting very frustrated at not having reliable news to respond to. It was becoming a constant debunking of lies.
I don’t think it matters who you put there. I think the era of talk radio (except local) is gone.
Something else-—I don’t know what-—will take its place.
#116. The voice of reason sums it up again, bigly!
