Weekly Garden Thread - February 13-19, 2021
February 13, 2021 | Diana in Wisconsin/Greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

Hi and thanks. I could not manage tires, or even a big container and I have lots of big patio planters. Those days are over. I could manage a hefty bag or maybe double up one that I could just take the potatoes out and spread out the dirt afterwards. Would probably just set it in the garden bed. This is all I can handle.

Just came across an old magazine I had been saving (2017) from ‘Mary Jane’s Farm.’

I couldn’t find it on-line, but she had a piece in there about ‘recycling snow,’ and she’s in Idaho where it snows A LOT in winter. Some of her ideas for melting and using CLEAN snow:

*Watering Houseplants
*Flushing toilets
*Mopping and Scrubbing
*Cleaning Muddy Boots & Rinsing recyclables
*Hand washing and laundry

Since *I* have an abundance of snow this season, I think I’m going to start filling up my washing machine for a semi-free wash load later in the week!

I have also used melted snow as a hair rinse and I would imagine it would be great for seedlings. As kids, I remember Grandma making us Snow Ice Cream, which was a fun treat.

Now, where’s my bucket? LOL!

By Saturday, it will be Spring in Dallas.

Autumn will have returned to Conn.
Chicago needs prayer.

Looks like the sub-zero days and night are coming to an end. Almost FORTY by the start of next week! *Digs Out Flip-Flops*
