Buddy of mine lives in Boyne City and he said they’re getting hit hard too
Cool story on grafting!
Looked thru johnnys catalog, but still have seeds left over; I like the pelletized seeds.
must be nice down in the tropics; I just feed the birds and wonder how the local moose take the winter so well. Sometimes they bed right nx to the house; must be warmer.
Spring can't get here soon enough.
Seattle area has not had a hard freeze yet this winter (for gardening purposes) and I may have jinxed it by posting that a few days ago.
We should be having lows below freezing (30-28) for aboutb4 ir 5 days this coming week.
High’s will be in the low 40s so not technically a hard freeze or frost but enough to finally kill off my sweet peas. I think my Italian kale and broccoli should be fine however.
I’ll be starting my tomato seeds this next week.
I already ordered a bunch of stuff from them - some onion sets. I used to order the onion plants from Burpee but the price from them is now way too expensive.
I had an extensive garden in Massachusetts for over 20 years and now I am in South Carolina for over 15 years, learning the ways and climate. Built a PVC greenhouse to start plants early. Another learning experience...
Just a wonderful image. Thanks for the cheer, Diana.
Not yearly, but I have purchased from them. Seeds were good. Bareroot trees were wimpy and poorly packed.
At some point I kind of expect to have a dozen “franken-trees” like that. Grafting a branch from a young seedling onto a mature tree is supposed to trick the branch into fruiting sooner. Since some of the plant-breeding projects I plan to start involve tree fruits, I’ll need that to use as a shortcut.
It’s going to be very pretty in the spring when they flower :)
Great news on the mold/fungus issue in greenhouse pots.
An internet search showed it to be “grey mold” which is allegedly harmless to plants.
Itnis a sign that my humidity levels were too high but I am combating that right now fairly effectively.
The grey mold is only coming back in little amounts where I did my napalm style attack on it!

I start tomatoes here (Zone 4/5) in SW Wisconsin in late March, but I may start earlier depending upon what they predict the spring weather to be - and I can move things to the greenhouse, earlier. I plan on it being ‘Tomato-Palooza’ this season - I am low on all my usually canned goods. MY bad. I goofed around last season with Determinates - not enough production. Back to my tried and true varieties.
NEGATIVE 15 (-15) when I got up at 7am this morning - but it’s a POSITIVE 15 in the greenhouse, LOL! 100% sunny day.
This should be the worst of whatever frigid air Canada is ‘blessing’ us with this week!
Can’t tell you all how HAPPY I am that we installed a new furnace fall before last! :)
Burpee is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. But that catalog? Total Eye Candy!
