A California sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a mountain lion Monday that was stalking a family of four on a bike trail in the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Placerville, county officials said.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said it responded late Monday afternoon to a 911 call from a couple with two small children in a stroller and two small dogs.
The adult mountain lion followed the family for 10 minutes and continued to track them even when they yelled, according to reports.
When a deputy arrived on the scene, he watched the lion pacing back and forth and also tried shouting at the animal, the Sheriff's Office said.

That’s sad. poor kitty. I hope they were at least able to turn the pelt into a nice satchel.

If it was a female who had just given birth, that could leave her depleted of energy. But such a condition (loose stomach area skin hanging down) would have been very obvious from the start.

a couple with two small children in a stroller and two small dogs. On a bike path in the Siera Nevada foothills.
That’s kinda like strolling through a bad neighborhood at night with dollar bills hanging out your pocket. Yes you can do that but actions have consequences.

Dang wild animals. I wonder if the wild fires drive them closer to people. Maybe if you cleaned your forest.
So they yelled and shouted, and the cat never said a thing? Maybe it was deaf?
Mountain lion hunting has been banned in Kalifornia for about 20 years. The population of lions has exploded. The fires drove them closer to human population areas. There will be more problems this Spring
I rather think Nancy and the Democrats are the family who will be surprised when the Republican mountain lion fails to get scared off and continue stalking them.

My wife was in the emergency room when they brought one of those fatalities in. She said the animal hit its victim from behind at full speed to effect the kill. No biting and ripping the throat out, or anything like that. The victim's spine was completely severed and the heart was torn from its arteries (or was that singular?...artery...I can't remember). Other organs were also fatally injured, all from the collision itself. She said the X-rays were unbelievable, the organs were so badly jumbled up.
Mountain lions eat mostly deer. But they do seem to like young children also. You should never see one or be able to get a shot off at one, they are ghosts. There was something very wrong with the animal to behave like that. Good thing it was put down.
