Add McConnell to the folly in Georgia to limit stimulus checks to ONE TIME $600, while congress critters are paid $1000 EVERY DAY of week plus expenses for staff and offices plus Cadillac retirement and healthcare benefits. The same McConnell had no problem sending BILLIONS to foreign countries harboring Osama Bin Laden and hundreds of pork barrel projects for their donor class.

I didn't mix the different functions. I simply pointed out that the VP is treated differently than any other member of the executive branch under the U.S. Constitution.

As I postulated before, there is a reason why the USC specifically assigns the role of tabulating electoral votes to the VP. If it was merely a role to the arithmetic to add votes, that could have been done by any of the Senate or House clerks.

Or maybe there is no such thing as a "Senate or House clerk" identified in the U.S. Constitution, and if there is a need to establish a single person to serve in an oversight role then the VP makes more sense than anyone else.

As I see it, the Constitution and the 12th Amendment are written explicitly to minimize the roles of any elected official subject to legislative branch oversight in presidential elections.

Ditto. I disagree with the "traitor Pence" stuff from FReepers. I think Pence himself said they looked carefully at ANYTHING he could during the Jan. 6th session to stop the RAT electoral totals and basically his only role in the process was to count the envelopes he was given. His job in "certifying" the winner is purely ceremonial, he couldn't unilaterally do anything, and its up to Congress itself to decide what to allow. We all know he can only cast a vote in the event of a 50-50 tie.

It's like saying why doesn't the Queen do something to stop the goverment tyranny in UK when she gives her "Speech from the Throne" stating what the government's priorities are. We all know her "goals" are whatever the Prime Minister tells her to read. Sure, she could "in theory" show up in Parliament and "veto" gay marriage or month-long lockdowns on her own, but it ain't gonna happen, and IF she tried that, it would result in chaos.
