My “No-pus.” Twenty years on Free Republic
Self | December 10, 2020 | J.havenfarm

Posted on 12/10/2020 3:21:48 PM PST by j.havenfarm

Those who have joined us in recent years have been spared something on this forum that was all too common for all too long: the dreaded “opus.” Sometimes shrill, sometimes plaintive, often quite lengthy, these were vanity posts explaining why the member was leaving FR. For the life of me I could never figure out why we were treated to these narcissistic rambles.

Well, today I am 20 years on Free Republic, and this is my “no-pus,” because I’m not going anywhere. Thank you to my brothers and sisters in the fight for liberty for keeping company for two decades.

I’ve mellowed over the years and in the course of making over 3,700 replies. I still have two pet peeves, though:

I’ve realized that it is unkind to criticize the grammar of others so I don’t do it anymore. However, one exception is the despicable practice of pluralizing word’s using apostrophe’s. I can’t imagine where this violence against grammar comes from. I still see red and pounce very time I see it.

The second, based on my decades in the law, is the widespread belief that lawsuits, particularly the “class action,” are magic wands that can banish one’s foes. To the contrary they are difficult, expensive, and very time consuming. Add in the many corrupt federal judges, and entertaining the litigation fantasy is just not a productive use of one’s time. Likewise the fantasy, often expressed here, that public officials and judges can or should be jailed for their decisions. Again one’s mental energies directed on that line are just a dead end.

So that’s my airing of grievances. But mostly I want to thank all of my FRiends, and especially Jim. Here’s to another 20 years

Been here since 1999 (under the handle of “Cosmo” — the details of which I can’t recover, so I function as a newbie to some of you out there..... Which of course has led to some rather humorous diatribes from people who don’t decipher sarcasm terribly well or are over caffeinated — one or the two. But anyhoo.... Have yet to write an Opus. Though I’d sure like to know what led to the demise of folks like Mia T., Registered, Doug from Upland, Buckhead — to name just a few..... Anyone? Anyone?

I joined 20 years ago. I was protesting the Bush Gore 2000 fiasco at Daly Plaza in Chicago, when a guy in a tuxedo jumped out of a passing limousine and protested for ten minutes. He was on his way to a wedding! He educated me about FreeRepublic. Been a member since. The limousine returned and off he went.
The apostrophes seem to be a result of autocorrect. Drives me crazy too!

My testament- of my own free will.

In November of 1998, I was at an election victory party for the first US Republican Senator to be elected in Illinois in 20 years, and presumably the last one, and saw a brave young woman with a NEWSMAX sign (yard size) who had written Free Republic’s URL on the back of it, and was proudly displaying it at the front of the room. She was freeping the crowd, before I even knew what freeping was all about.

The subject US Senator served one term, stepping down after scum traitor US Congressman Ray LaHood and (alleged) child molester- Speaker of the House, US Congressman Dennis Hastert, told Peter G. Fitzgerald, that they were going to run a GOPe candidate against him in the GOP primary, which is almost unheard of within one’s own party... These are your back stabbing run of the mill party Republicans. Later, an unknown Barack Obama, won THIS seat. spit

Ray Lahood was rewarded for his treachery by being appointed US Labor Secretary in Obama’s Cabinet, which meant he would get a hefty boost to his already golden retirement. Dennis Hastert eventually went to prison for failing to report large sums of money that he paid out to a blackmailer that he (likely) molested back in his high school wrestling coaching days.

The Republican Party is still rife with back stabbing GOPe cucks, and (guessing) molesters that are being blackmailed as I type. See US IL REP GOPe Adam Kinzinger, as an example of a backstabber in the mold of Romney and no name. spit

Back on topic, I lurked for 2 years before registering in NOV of 2000. I guess that means I’ve been around these parts for purt’ near 22 years and some change.

Free Republic is a bulwark against tyranny, and Jim, John and Sheila Robinson (RIP) are national treasures.

Good to call most of you my fellow FRiend / freeper.

My first reply was soon after President George HW Bush threw up on the Japanese Emperor at a state dinner. (there was a photo of the dinner)

I had the same flu that HW had and even barfed the same night.

I had made a funny comment and we laughed for quite a while.

How I have matured. Now only farts are funny.
