The giant goldfish was found in a park in Greenville County, South Carolina as wildlife authorities conducted a fish population survey, a park official said.
A goldfish weighing nine pounds came under the spotlight Monday after being discovered during a fish population survey at a lake in South Carolina, park officials said.
Ty Houck, an official with Greenville County Parks, said the “massive” fish was found swimming on Nov. 16 in a 12-acre body of water in Oak Grove Lake Park in the county of Greenville.
Greenville Rec, which oversees the park where the fish was discovered, posted a photo of the golden spectacle on Facebook on Monday.
“Anyone missing their goldfish? This 9lb goldfish was found in Oak Grove Lake during some recent testing at our lakes,” the organization wrote in a post. “The work included electrofishing, a method of measuring the health of the fish population.”

Its my understanding that goldfish are just another variation of carp.
Correct. I have seen much larger ones here and in Taiwan
Stuff ya learn:
My grandmother was so happy when we brought her a carp. That was in the 1950s.
How cool, thanks for sharing. My late mom used to talk about collecting and returning deposit bottles walking for money on the way to a movie.
Deposit bottles were JUST still around for a few years in my youth, but not worth anything more than a candy bar or two.
smart fish to get that big
When I was a kid we called it ‘telephoning’ ... used an old crank charger from a wall phone.
They dont kill the fish, just stuns them for a bit.
I fished in a creek in Manhattan Ks.,in 88 and 89, the creek would overflow into fields and landlocked the carp. Crazy fun chasing them in 1ft or less of water and trying to catch them. Had a good ole boy soldier buddy from Louisiana and he made us some spears to spear them, after a (few) beers or course.
We did it with primer cord.
Poor Joy Behar goes for a swim and ends up getting shocked and tagged.
I know, but it’s very illegal in Florida...............
Golden Carp...Goldfish.
