It’s “Gary” not “Doug”
I can safely contend that statement, unless you mean he is dirty ideologically.
I knew Gary very closely, having gone to the same college (Alma) and pledged to the same fraternity (Zeta Sigma), one semester behind him. From 1977 to his graduation in 1980, he and I were in classes together and studied together PoliSci and pre-Law). We were of the same incoming freshman class (1976).
Gary is not dirty in the traditional, political sense although politics has increased his personal wealth...as it does all modern politicians. They come by this legitimately.
For the time I have known him (we didn’t stay in touch after baccalaureate as I moved out of Michigan) Gary has been a solid human being with compassion for others (demonstrated to me during pledging!) and a very studious mind.
Unfortunately, Gary has become an individual who places the needs of the urban/suburban constituency above the whole of his constituency throughout Michigan. After all, Wayne County decides the election.
I have no political qualms with Gary as he consistently works for his constituency (as he sees it) and keeps his head down. Only reluctantly making statements about the Party he represents.
My only divergence, and thus disqualification, is that he voted in favor of the impeachment. He did this under threat of discipline by the party embodied in SoH Pelosi.
I voted for John James solely on this point.
As a Senator, I saw little difference between them as far as service goes.
Even today, if you mention my name to him, he will remember me.

This week is it I think. The Supreme Court will either do its duty and Trump gets his next term or Trump crosses the Rubicon and we get martial law and tribunals, and antifa/blm do their eve of destruction thing.

Martin Van Buren, eighth President, had been a widower for 18 years when he moved into the Executive Mansion in 1837. He was never to remarry, so the Van Buren White House lacked a hostess until that role was filled in 1839 by Angelica Singleton Van Buren (1817–1878).
