Told I may be asked to go home and provide proof of my anxiety condition to wearing masks
Vanity | 11/24/2020 | Vendome

Wast just informed by my boss I will be asked to go home if I don't wear a mask while on premise.

Informed him of my anxiety condition and he said get a doctors note.

Informed him the are I work in is 900 Square feet and I am generally the only person in that office and "the rules" say I am exempt from a mask under those conditions.

"Go tell your king newsom but, that is the way it is" he replied.

"If you have to wear a mask at the grocery store, you can wear one at work" was another answer.

Mthfkr! When I go to a grocery store I am in and out. I don't shop for a full weeks groceries anymore because I cannot have that damn thing on for very long without getting highly anxious.

Regardless, you are imposing a draconian measure where there, even if this whole thing is a fraud, clear rules such as:

If you are interacting with another person and within six (6) feet of each other.

If you cannot maintain a distance of more than six (6) feet you are required to wear a mask.

and On and On

1. I do not work near anyone at all. Colleagues are in another room. My desk is 25-30 feet away from my office door.

2. I do not have to interact with them to even do my job.

3. I can totally do my job out of the office. One wonders why they handed me a laptop and a cell phone.

I completed an order just the other day without coming to the office.

Put in an emergency request to be given a Covid vaccine. After that has taken effect you are 95% sureer that you aren’t a vector for Covid. And you already probably aren’t one even now - so . . .

Your compliance is appreciated, comrade.

The reflexive compliance by even freepers is very disheartening. I never wear a mask anywhere. I will not comply with insanity.

If you decide to go the “I'm going to pretend to be wearing a mask” route, I recommend the “sports style” masks with a detachable filter on the inside.

I bought the style I have for woodworking. It has a carbon filter and two exhaust valves. The advertised rating is N99. The “draw”, to borrow a cigar smoking term, is a little tight; until you take the filter out. Then it's like nothing is there.

You can see though the carrier once the filter is out of the way. With or without the filter, exhaling is easy thanks to the valves. In other words, the mask with the filter in place is only protecting you from The Rona. It provides you with protection, if you deem that necessary, and provides the illusion of protection to everyone else.

The only downside I've found with the style I have is that I can't get the nose piece to fit tightly enough to stop my glasses from fogging. I can't find anything that does that, though.

I get to wear an N-95 and another mask over the N-95.

It's special...

They do allow us to eat without them though...

Tell them you identify as anxious and that that's your truth. Oh, and that you're living your best life.

Sorry you have to work amongst wokeholes. I'm confident you'll handle it, though. :)

Couple of options
1) Minimalist mask. Almost like wearing nothing. On Amazon, search “Sponge Face Masks”. 4 for $7.

2) Telehealth doc visit. Amwell app. If you have a good enough story you might get a note. (JAMA Network. 2020;July 10) A medically necessary exemption from masking is considered a disability modification under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Individuals with disabilities have clearly defined legal protections under both federal and state law. Title II of the ADA prohibits disability discrimination. Amid a global pandemic, reasonable accommodations for masking intolerance can and should include avoidance measures, such as curbside services and delivery. Employers can legally require masking at their workplace, and workers may be asked to provide medical documentation for an exemption. Nevertheless, there is a moral concern among the public that some people fake disabilities to gain advantages, such as getting extra time when taking tests, cutting lines in theme parks, or obtaining a favorable parking spot.

It feels no different than being in a unfamiliar crowd or crowded elevator.

I have had debilitating panic attacks so, after 57 years I don’t bother with things I can’t do.

I can’t even sit in an auditorium without trying to get some isle seat.

Not only do I get the same sensation with those masks they hurt my nose and the backs of my ears.

It’s illegal for him to demand a “doctor’s note” if you are claiming a disability.

That’s why landlords basically can’t ban dogs anymore from rental property, because everyone says they are “support animals” and we are not allowed to even ask what condition they have that requires a support animal, much less ask for documentation of the condition.

The only real question is do you want to formally claim a disability, and follow through with the available legal recourse if your employer doesn’t accommodate you?

IS the company private?

If yes, they dictate to you what the uniform is. Business casual is a uniform of sorts. If they tell you now that you have to wear a dunce hat whenever you are clocked in, then that is what you have to wear or leave, quit, what have you. You are not entitled a paycheck for being an employee. You earn your paycheck for trading your productivity in a specific skill the company wants to utilize. Therefore you earn a paycheck. If you don’t like the policies or procedures of the company, then leave, quit, walk out. If you choose to stay, for whatever reason, you have no entitlement to beotch at a company or their change in policy. What you do on your time, well if you are on FB not quite, but on your time wear whatever you want. Of course all legal laws applies first and foremost. The mask laws are coming just wait for it since most EOs cannot be legal and constitutionally enforced by punishment as a consequence for not following an EO.

I'm 57 but didn't need lorazepam until I was in my early 30's. I actually went on it not for panic attacks, but for stress-related anxiety of various sorts. Including being married to my first wife. (The Marriage From Hell. I felt like a victim in a slasher movie.) In crowded situations, all I think of is,"Greetings, puny humans." *chuckle* Now my current wife can relate to the auditorium-induced anxiety. We try to go to a concert every couple of years, and no matter how close to the stage I get us, she wants aisle seats, preferably near an exit tunnel. Ever since 9/11, she's had this fear of something happening and she'll get trapped by a panicking crowd of people she can't get through. That's why I give her a lorazepam about fifteen minutes before we park. One year when we went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I got us good floor seats about ten rows back from the stage, and she was practically in a state of paralysis because we were right in the center 'B' section.

Call your doctor, then swing by his office to get a written note that you have anxiety disorder and are eligible for a first-wave vaccine as an at-risk individual. Also get a paper rx for xanax (whether you intend to fill it or not). Go thru a drive-in testing site - get the results. Bring copies of all to your employer’s HR dept for your file. Hand all directly to the HR manager, not the receptionist. The first comment from your boss, tell him/her your documents are on file with HR. Go on Cal-OSHA website and file a complaint for lack of accommodation/harassment for your medical condition. You can always drop the complaint later. Working for a private employer in CA you basically have no rights unless you are very proactive. So be very proactive. Also realize that those who make waves are usually axed within a year. Minimize your waves with the above medical paperwork.

Sounds like an irrational Karen submitted a written complaint to HR.
Your boss is now caught between an irrational mental case and demonstrating he has created a cohesive team.

The cowardly trouble makers are poison to the team

I’m ready with a mask when a store owner or employee demands I wear one. Normally I would make a smarmy comment then just walk out ... but it’s more fun this way. You see, my custom made mask reads: “F*ck you, Gavin Newsom” in a very elegant script.
