POTUS Trump is far more powerful than many realize
The Atlantic ^ | Jan/Feb 2019 | Elizabeth Goitein

Unknown to most Americans, a parallel legal regime allows the president to sidestep many of the constraints that normally apply. The moment the president declares a “national emergency”—a decision that is entirely within his discretion—more than 100 special provisions become available to him.

He is. Law enforcement is just not his thing but it is the one thing he needed more than anything else but never used it.

These are powers that Congress has voted on and deletated to the President. If they choose, they could revoke these powers.

If Trump had been a different sort of guy, he might have encouraged Congress to remove these powers and signed the bill. That would have been a big deal if the Presidency goes to the Democrats.

Trump has done everything he was able to do. But he was up against absolutely every force within America. If anyone was let down, it was Trump being let down by us. We sat back and figured he would be able to do all the heavy lifting himself.

Agree. Look at the human garbage we elect and sent to the swmap. Trump isn’t afraid of anything. After an ongoing coup now near four years long he knows federal law enforcement won’t follow his orders and have no interest in supporting the Rule of Law. That is all.

Keep praying everyone for God's Divine intervention. We will be subjects of an evil empire otherwise.

“Trump has done everything he was able to do.”

No, he did not. He kept Session and now Barr. He kept Wray.

(Also from The Atlantic)
Nonetheless, some legal scholars believe that the Constitution gives the president inherent emergency powers by making him commander in chief of the armed forces, or by vesting in him a broad, undefined “executive Power.” At key points in American history, presidents have cited inherent constitutional powers when taking drastic actions that were not authorized—or, in some cases, were explicitly prohibited—by Congress. Notorious examples include Franklin D. Roosevelt’s internment of U.S. citizens and residents of Japanese descent during World War II and George W. Bush’s programs of warrantless wiretapping and torture after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Abraham Lincoln conceded that his unilateral suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War was constitutionally questionable, but defended it as necessary to preserve the Union.

The Supreme Court has often upheld such actions or found ways to avoid reviewing them, at least while the crisis was in progress. Rulings such as Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company v. Sawyer, in which the Court invalidated President Harry Truman’s bid to take over steel mills during the Korean War, have been the exception. And while those exceptions have outlined important limiting principles, the outer boundary of the president’s constitutional authority during emergencies remains poorly defined.

Yes, session was a bad choice that doomed him. But we all thought session was a good guy until we didn’t. After that, mcconnell was never going to approve someone he had not given pre-approval for.

We, who?? I sure as Hell didn’t. WE all knew Sleepy Sessions was a swamp monster and were appalled Trump picked him. Go back and read those threads.

Well the Atlantic is correct about Trump’s powers. I personally think he needs to exercise at least one of them right about now. Unless you want 9 people in black robes deciding the date of the country.

Trump is fighting criminals. The usual rules can’t apply. He needs to act decisively and treat them like criminals, not as political opponents.

*************

Not necessarily fear, more like frustration. He faces an incredible amount of resistance starting with the DOJ, FBI, and on down. Trump simply doesn’t have the power that a typical president has. The entire bureaucracy defies him.
