Ancient 'Kfar Nafah' Boundary Stone Uncovered on the Golan [facts on the ground]

The Nafah IDF base recently made headlines in an Israeli TV series on the 1973 Yom Kippur War which was bought by HBO, Valley of Tears. Now an archaeological excavation conducted on the Golan Heights reveals for the first time that the name Nafah was given to the site as early as 1700 years ago.

A boundary stone inscribed in Greek was discovered during an archaeological excavation conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority ahead of the Mekorot Water Company project to install a water pipeline in Nafah. At some point, the boundary stone was re-purposed as a tombstone...

According to the researchers, the inscription, which mentions the name Kfar Nafah (Nafah village), was written on a boundary stone that was part of a project conducted under the Roman Emperor Diocletian (around 300 CE), to mark the boundaries of local villages for the purpose of collecting taxes.

This is the first boundary stone in the center of the Golan Heights which bears the name of a place that has been preserved to this day: Nafah was the name of the Syrian village that existed here until the Six-Day War in 1967, where today a military base bearing the same name was established.

Usually, ancient names are preserved as a result of settlement continuity which preserves ancient names from generation to generation. However, at Nafah the ancient remains have not revealed such settlement continuity, and since the Byzantine period -- about 1500 years ago, until modern times, there haven't been any known settlements in the area, apart from briefly during the Mamluk period (13th to 15th centuries CE). Then, centuries later, the Syrian village bearing the name appeared.

The dig at the site of a 1600-year-old church that was discovered... in the Banias Springs Nature Reserve (a.k.a. Nahal Hermon Nature Reserve)... Prof. Adi Erlich explained that "the Temple of the god Pan and the church were discovered in a topographic environment that combines a cliff, a cave, springs and a terrace created in ancient times from the collapse of part of the cliff, which is where the temples were built. "In the Hellenistic period... worship of the god Pan began near the cave and the spring. Hence the origin of the name of the ancient city 'Panias,' which later changed to Banias (the Arabs who invaded the land of Israel in the 7th century from the peninsula could not pronounce the sound P - DI)... Throughout the Roman period, the city was an important center of worship for the gods Pan and Zeus..." Among the surprising finds discovered in the excavation are the remains of a mosaic floor decorated with crosses and other symbols, which led the researchers to conclude the structure used to be a church. A large and unique dressed stone was also unveiled on which many cross marks were engraved, probably by pilgrims who visited the church after it became a center of Christian pilgrimage. The excavation also uncovered finds that indicate the earlier use of the place as a sacred Roman compound open to the sky for the worship of the god Pan, with niches and altars and decorated architectural items. A small pool was also found in the center of the compound.

Israel is going to need more than a few boundary stones if a potential Demented Idiot gets the reigns. The refrain from day one would be ‘no peace in ME without palestinians’. Green is in vogue with the globalist pigs. Green new deal etc. So Israel will be forced out of Golan and back to the Green line. Embassy back to Tel Aviv. Already Bibi bought into the globpig media narrative that the Demented Idiot is president elect.
