Actor Sean Connery, the big screens first and most revered James Bond, has died, his family said Saturday. He was 90 years old.
Connery died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas, having been unwell for some time, his son told the BBC.
Best known for his seven turns as Bond, beginning with 1962s Dr. No, the Scottish-born Connery freed himself from agent 007s debonair typecast to play myriad other roles across a decades-long career filled with accolades, including an Oscar, two BAFTA awards and being named People magazines Sexiest Man of the Century in 1999.

“One ping Muceli...One ping only”...
On my list of the greatest 10 actors/actresses of all time.
“Things down here don’t react well to bullets...”
However, I'd like to bring a fun piece from Sean Connery's recent past. When he was 79 in 2009, he was diagnosed with a heart condition. As is usual, it was reported that his doctors advised a change in his diet which included abstention from alcohol including his favorite red wines. This below was his response to this advice;
"I favour Merlots from Chile for their value and I keep a good deal of California wine in my cellar. I have one that cost me USD 2,000 for two cases, which I think is rather steep." Now I cannot know if he continued to sip in these 11 years before his lamented death BUT any day that he did was probably a better one for it!
God bless his soul. He was the only James Bond I ever liked. I’ve never watched any of the other movies.
One of the absolute best . . . RIP 007
Another GREAT movie...”The Untouchables”
Loved his work and I dont recall ever hearing his political views
One proud “ping”. Just one.
“Shaken, not stirred. “
In my mind, Connery was the ONLY Bond.
Rest easy, Sean...
I have no idea what his politics were, which is the way it should be.
A class act who has shed these mortal coils.
RIP.
The ONLY Bond. James Bond
Exactly! I quit watching when Connnery left and have only his Bond movies. The only thing good about the Bond movies post-Connery was the music. RIP Sir Sean and thank you for some of the most entertaining movies that brought us such sweet memories.......;(
2 Tim 1:12: I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
In a franchise picture serial, most of the time the first actor who plays the role sets a kind of standard, realistic or not and everyone else has to measure up.
Connery was great, but I also liked Timothy Dalton, who I thought was more ruthless in the role. Desmond Wilkinson, who played Q agreed and he also like George Lanzaby.
I also like Daniel Craig who brings and edginess to the role more like the character in the book.
Greatly enjoy his performance in The Untouchables.
“... Okay, one regret...”
Connery was asked about Zardoz and said he was a professional and would never turn down a role. People will remember the good performances and very few will remember the bad.”
Thanks. I’m down with that...
To show you how petty and set in my ways I am the only Bond movie I saw after Connery left the role was “Live and Let Die”......pathetic uh?.....lol
While I like Daniel Craig, Sean Connery is who I think of when 007 comes up!!!!
