A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

And ... done! If any of them call me back, it’s okay, because it’s them calling and not me. I bet I sound crazy.
Thank you.
Prayers up for puppy.
How would they know you were gone longer??
STASI checking papers at the borders??
Do as you will and f’k ‘em if they can’t take a joke!
Moose’s Mum says only 1, 2 and 5 are actually valid, and she should know! It’s funny if you watch a lot of British shows.
You sounded very busy, and I envy you.
I’m fed up with the way I’ve been feeling and I want to figure out what the causes are. I suspect it may be weather-related, but it could be just CFIDS and its insidiousness.
I went to the desert for a reason, and my body functioned better there than anywhere else. Now, I’m in a cooler climate and I don’t seem to be functioning well at all. I’m determined to find out the reason for my lack of energy.
In other, happier news, my Real Brother called yesterday, which was a pleasant surprise. We didn’t talk long, but it was a fun call. The senses of humor were in full flower so it was a giggly time for the three of us.

“3 and 4 have fallen out of use. However the rest of it passes muster. To prewarm the pot or not to pre-warm the pot, that is the question. Bags or loose leaf: another minefield. Milk in first or last...,000eeek. One lump or two, or even Julie Andrews. Britishness is hard, it requires regular practice.”
So now we know, T-c!
At least the darling little accent comes easily.
You’re welcome. Good morning!
I only stop by for the morning kitten picture...
<3
Good morning. Are you on the Morning Kitteh ping list?
Howya!
Morning kitteh is looking for Friday...
Good morning.
I just gave my list of used book sellers to a Facebook group...It’s an LDS group and they’re interested in books by specific authors. Of course, for now, the subject is the things that are happening now that were told about up to 70 years ago. They’re very chilling in their accuracy.
I was thinking a few days ago that the reason I could never find the things I wanted after a while was because I tell people about them. And I just did it again. LOL! ;o]
Good morning. That can happen if you tell people something is in the library, too. Then it’s gone!
It’s cold here today: ice on the cars out front.
dakine, you’ve just fallen into the Undead Thread, AKA The Flying Castle. If you check out Nicknamedbob’s page, you’ll find our history.
We have a very low ping volume, but if you’d like to be added I’ll be more than happy to do so!
Welcome! We just moved, so we have about 4,000 more posts to make before we move again. Unless someone alerts us to a suitable new home! These days, the pickin’s are mighty slim!
‘Face
:o])
That’s certainly true with this library!
I gave my windshield squeegee to the little gal across the street to do her windows with and she told me she used it in the shower. Well, I haven’t scrubbed/squeegeed down my shower in a lot of years because I found a product to do that for me. So I told her. Clean Shower. And then I recalled that I had told other people. And now, I’m lucky if I can find it. :o|
It’s that time of year, when people are doing weird hoarding behaviors. I buy dish soap every time I’m at Walmart, because You Never Know!
Thank you. We appreciate it.
