A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

Filets are bigger than sticks. Walmart was out of sticks.
Still have all my fingers.
Fingers are useful. Not only do I use all 10 of them to type, but I was once decent at simple card tricks and would hate to lose that ability.
Back from running in circles. Lin’s had chickens, this time. I also saw a long-sleeved T-shirt with “Hurricane” on the front and something about Southern Utah and the Great Outdoors. I hope they still have some the next time I go.
I hate hearing about health problems in those of “upper years” because I now realize how easily we can all fall victim to the frailties of age. If it ain’t one darn thing...
Odd how the dexterity of hands and fingers works. My hands are agile for some things, but for others, I feel like I’m all thumbs. I never seem to know how they’ll behave from one day to the next, so if you can keep the agility in yours, good on ya!
Will it go ‘round in circles? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=necLdGpfgEs
As a fan, I’m sure you’ll be relieved.

That was a pretty cool song when it first came out! Pretty cool now, actually, so thanks.
Nice gams there, Sweetheart.
:-)
Fillets here.
Had the ground beef thawed for spaghetti.
But spaghetti got the “meh” vote.
Put breaded chicken breast in the oven...
...pasta on the stove...
...a little tomato basil sauce...
...a little grated parmesan...
...suddenly everyone likes dinner.
Similar events happen here, too.
Good Morning TC.
Hope the world is behaving in your presence.
Will be so glad when this 2 meter social distancing business ends, then I can get back to my usual 20 yards.
What sweet little morning floofs!
Good morning.
There was a lot I was going to do before now, but I got hung up with another computer glitch. *sigh* It will be Monday, I suspect, before it’s resolved.
Then I wrote a letter, and now I want to listen to a talk and then do the dishes and then...
We’ll see how the day goes from there.
A gal is coming by to pick up the Christmas tree this morning. My place looks like I’m getting ready to move. ;o]
“frozen fried fish filets “
Those must be hard going. Fishy Popsicle.
“ Entropy is high!”
Oh...I was hoping you’d go with Clubs. Never mind. :)
Good morning. That’s very British of you!
It may turn out to be a nice day here. I’m not ready to commit, yet. We have choir in a little while, so I need to organize some pages. If we had a late hurricane, an early blizzard, or a stupid, Democrat lockdown again, I could have a whole week to get all my pages squared away.
DP says vultures are assembling over the utility easement about 1/4 mile north of us. I guess something died.
“vultures are assembling”
Self assembly Birds!
Read instructions carefully, some adhesive may be required.
There is a rumour that the lockdown may end early, 80 Conservative MPs are revolting against the prospect of yet another one in January.
Also the Natives are restless... 1215, 1485, 1640, *Cough* *Cough*
Lol!
I know plenty of people who are restless, but I’m tired and would stay in my home and garden almost indefinitely.
I hope your Conservative MPs are successful, though, or you’re likely to get another Labour government.
I saw an excerpt from a Daily Mail piece saying that Boris Johnson’s girlfriend is really running things. What’s your opinion?
Labour are backing the Lockdown policy . The problem is,they now have a leader who appeals to the Sheeple. He can be mistaken for competent, until he opens his Pie-hole.
Oh yes, Boris’s other half is definitely a major influence over his decisions.
Not just on C-19 but also the Green nonsense that he keeps coming out with. Motorway speed limits to be lowered next. To reduce emissions...and raise revenue when nobody obeys the new limits.
Things, except for shopping, are no different for me. I’m tired of seeing the stupidity of people exercising outside with masks on.
The first thing I do when I come out of a store is take my mask off. When I get to the car, I put the mask in the trash.
GAH! The insanity of our RINO governor is increasing, and his replacement doesn’t seem to be much better.
I remember when Jimmy Carter did the speed limits thing.
What are they assembling, though? Inquiring minds want to know.
