A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

I decided to let the youth have a lie-in, since the teenbros were at camp for five nights in a row. I’ll kick them out early tomorrow!
What a good mom you are!!
Enjoy the quiet of the morning! My favorite time of the day was before I got everyone else up.
Still is! ;o]
Frank has turned up: there’s leftover Chinese food. I’ll take him for a constitutional after he eats.
Good morning, everyone. Happy Monday!
I think I feel like kitteh feels. I have no idea what’s lurking around the corner.
Good morning. Best wishes on the new week!

Every morning I’m surprised and happy on opening my droid phone chrome browser to see where goggle thinks I am..This morning they believe me to be in the Boston vicinity, suggesting local news articles there.
Sort of Covid virtual touring...
Like Where’s Waldo’s isp?
Gotta love the dynamic isp bouncing.
;>)
Good morning. That must be confusing, especially if it gives you the time and weather, too.
Aha, it’s almost time to go to the library here.
I was going to comment on Frank and his need for a Constitutional and ended up being side-tracked by making the bed.
So now, here’s ArGee, which means the week has really started.
And last but most certainly, not least, is Covenantor! I don’t think I’ve ever heard of ISP bouncing. I don’t really think I want to experience it, either.
I’ve seen this before and I totally agree!
Thanks!
Frank and I went to the library. It started raining hard on the way back, but we were still going to stop by the vet’s office to pick up a refill on Shannon’s thyroid pills, but the parking lot was too full, so I’ll go by there later.
The bounce is a good thing....it confuse tracking...doesn’t effect speed nor viewing trusted sites.
Not a problem, weather site locale is user designated...I even lie about that picking a nearby location.
Keeps my email spam folder clear...though I sometimes miss news of the Nigrerian generosity of with theit multi million $ offers.
Fascinating.

Ever since I had Valley Fever in AZ, if the wind blows, I get very sleepy. UNNGH!
Kittehs are looking regally kitteh-ish today.
Good morning.
Yesterday started out OK, but then it went wonky in a hurry and I had no clue whose side I was on or even if I was in the game. I hope today is better.
Changing the schedule isn’t going to be as easy as it sounds, but I’m determined to make it happen.
Ace Hardware sent me a discount card for $5 off anything for a birthday “gift” from them. Right. After I had spent $7 for two keys, I can afford shopping there?
I did wake up at 0300 when the alarm rang, but it was 2130 last night before I finally fell asleep. I WILL see this through! ;o]
Walmart this morning. Oh goody. I don’t feel like going but I need to. Then tomorrow is my appointment at the pain clinic. I need to tell them I’m moving. Maybe I’ll get a box or two packed between the two days. I hope.
Good morning. Just called my mom to sing “Happy Birthday.” A big, male mallard landed in our back yard and strutted around a bit before deciding to move on.
Happy birthday to your mom!
My FD’s birthday is next week, with Mother’s Day coming just before. Then mine, then FS’s birthday and Father’s Day and then nothing until Christmas! Unless I count my Real Brother’s birthday... ;o]
Happy Star Wars Day.
I’m going to find Frank and make him go for a constitutional.
