Geologists 'resurrect' missing tectonic plate
Phys.org ^ | 10/20/2020 | Sara Tubbs, University of Houston

A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography images—similar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.

"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."

Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.

Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

When in Doubt, do as the Doubters do. (That was my mother, speaking.)

I was actually going to say, when in doubt, delegate. You did. Good job!

I think I’ve figured out the pill dosage/transition schedule and with luck, it will owrk.

It’s the tea cycle I’m having trouble with.

I’m going to work on organizing my life a little better in the next week, when we don’t have a lot on the calendar. Famous last words.

Maybe I’ll even make a list ;-).

I’m forced into organizing my life because of the supplements I take. My life is clustered around the dosages, and in between, there is the tea. It only has to be taken twice a day, but because I can’t eat for an hour either side of it, I have to adhere to the dosages. Snarled up, is what it is!

I wore a skirt today that I haven’t worn since 2004, because I couldn’t get into it! YAY!!

Next week will be another outfit I haven’t worn for a long time! Not quite as long, but close!

For me, yes, for others, perhaps murder.

Switching to Byetta tomorrow.

If it was good enough for my pappy, it’s good enough for me, dagnabbit!

I’m so sorry. But that’s the scheme, isn’t it, now? To do away with the chronically ill and the elderly so they aren’t a drain on “society.” To me, it is the same as murder, whether it happens at one time, or over time.

I don’t know what my son has been taking, but he got his sugar numbers down from 280+ to 93. He’s lost 20 pounds and cut out carbs, so basically, he’s on the Keto diet.

Congratulations!

Mass went fine with no guitar. I told the congregation that everyone needed to help with singing. One of my choir ladies said, “We don’t need a guitarist: we have the Holy Spirit!”

Good morning!

That choir lady was absolutely right!

I don’t know what was going on with me, but I managed to last almost two hours after church and then headed down the hallway, thinking to do some reading. Or something.

It was as if someone hit me with a sledge hammer. I slept two hours. Then woke up and read and studied scriptures and finally died on the vine at about 1910. So tired!

So now, I’ll get dressed, sort my clothes and go do laundry.

Good morning. Best wishes with the laundry. I’m feeling a little sledgehammered, too, but my alarm went off, so here I am.

Laundry done with no mishaps. The two unruly dryers from last week just had “full change boxes.” Didn’t stop me from having wet clothes all over my house...

This morning, I woke up about 15 minutes before the alarm rang so I got up anyway. Good thing we have alarms. :o|

Kitteh is surprised that it’s morning and that someone was vacuuming so early.

I don’t know if I’ll get anywhere on the packing today, but I’ll know more about that after 0830, when I take my second dose of morphine. I’ve done all the heavy work I dare to with the first dose. Tomorrow, though, if nothing is done today, will see a LOT of stuff done! The “feeling” is there to DO IT, and I can’t ignore that.

Congratulations in the laundry done. I’m about to go upstairs and wash and dress. It’s not quite time to call the youths.

We will go to the library today, and I’m not sure what else.

The library is a good place to go. When I was there Saturday, is was very quiet. There was only one patron (me) and two workers, one of whom was gathering up an order for someone else, and one of whom gave me her undivided attention.

I told her of your Hogwart’s Castle, and the Diagon Alley set that will get to you before Christmas. She was fascinated!

Now, I need to go hang up the clothes.
