Trump Slams Susan Collins For Opposing Amy Coney Barrett Vote Before Election
Daily Caller ^ | October 16,2020 | HENRY RODGERS

President Donald Trump slammed Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins for not being in favor of voting to confirm Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett until after Election Day.

In a tweet, Trump said he heard a “nasty rumor” that Collins will not be voting in favor of confirming Barrett. Collins said in September that she does not support voting to confirm a Supreme Court justice to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg until after the Nov. 3 elections.

“There is a nasty rumor out there that @SenatorCollins of Maine will not be supporting our great United States Supreme Court Nominee. Well, she didn’t support Healthcare or my opening up 5000 square miles of Ocean to Maine, so why should this be any different. Not worth the work!” Trump tweeted

The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Barrett’s confirmation Oct. 22.

I don’t know much about Maine politics. I don’t know if there are any real republicans there at all. It may be that she appeals to democrats who are slightly more conservative than hardcore leftists. For all I know, not voting for Barrett and being dissed by the president may enhance her chances of re-election.

I was just speculating but I’d like to believe that GOP members coordinate in some way. Collins benefits more if she is reelected and the GOP keeps control of the Senate.

It just boggles the mind that Collins would be so stupid as to think that it’s to her political advantage to vote against Amy Barrett. Didn’t Collins vote for Kavanaugh? With all due respect to Kav, Amy has proven to be a much better nominee than him. It just blows me away at how spectacularly great that this woman is. Brilliant, polite, kind, unwavering, unflappable. She’s the real deal, and anyone opposing her looks like the bad guy. This nomination has been one of Trump’s finest achievements, and the timing of it couldn’t have been better.

She’s probably going to lose because of this, dumping your base is political suicide.

I hope he doesn’t, we don’t need any more Democrats in R jerseys. We need real Republicans.

Just read what Collins thought about Amy...wishy washy, hesitant...I’ll have to find it. You will be stunned.

Senator Fritz Hollings, South Carolina- D/40 year senator, was once asked by a lib reporter why he voted against Thurgood Marshall's confirmation for the SCOTUS. Old Fritz never batted an eye and instantly replied: "I wouldn't have been reelected, if I had."

Now, what the hell can some of these pols do in a state dominated by essentially equally powerful factions? Collins is what she is because Maine is what it is. Sara Gideon (D), if elected, would probably vote to pack the court when Schumer etc. got through with her.

I don’t get it. Does she think she’s going to get Rat votes with this stand?

I agree with you. Supposedly the reason she is in peril is because she gave what even I, no Collins fan, would concede was a brilliant floor speech announcing she would vote for Kavanaugh. I’m not much of a believer in 4-D chess, but this comment by the President might actually assist her with the simpletons who make up her constituency

I live in Maine.
Contacted Susan Collins office, and told them my vote for the Senator will be the same as her vote for the (incredibly) impressive and (highly) qualified Judge Barrett.

I agree with your comments...Clinton barely carried Maine in 2016. Trump may have actually helped Collins with moderates.

Because they never learned to think for themselves they have to wait for instructions. They fear making a misstep.

Show biz. With Delecto saying he will vote yes there is no question about Barrett being confirmed. The fight with Trump is just what Collins needs to push her Democrat challenger over the cliff. The challenger, who is the Speaker of the Maine Assembly ignored the fact that one of her caucus - a 30 year old man - had a sexual affair with a female student at the private high school he worked at and had to resign. The Democrat sat on the story for two years and when it came out she insisted she didn’t know about it. That was how Collins got back in the race jumping from 10 points down to one down. So you see in politics what you see is not always what the reality is.
