Q is the result of the sacrifices and commitment of countless patriots to win back our captured country from the Deep State and achieve the transformation President Trump promised in this campaign video. President Trump has said the awakening of the public is key to this transformation.
Q describes this awakening as follows:

When you are awake, you stand on the outside of the stable (‘group-think’ collective), and have ‘free thought’.
"Free thought" is a philosophical viewpoint which holds that positions regarding truth should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism, rather than authority, tradition, revelation, or dogma.
When you are awake, you are able to clearly see.
The choice is yours, and yours alone.
Trust and put faith in yourself.
You are not alone and you are not in the minority.

The changes heading our way and the information revealed will, at times, be very difficult to face, but we will face it together. I found a pretty decent timeline and extracted the key events below. I found nothing in public sources to indicated John Durham was tasked to begin his investigation prior to early 2019. Other than recommending his appointment as a US Attorney and initiating the Huber investigation that was later rolled-into Durhams, I find nothing to suggest that Jeff Sessions directed John Durham to do anything.
2019 Durham-related timeline:
Mueller report sent to AG Barr 3/22/19, who had been on the job about a month.
Barr issues a 4 page summary on 3/24. Mueller calls him on 3/28 to whine an subsequently sent his own letter to congressional leaders.
Barr meets with Durham 3/25/19 and 3 others from DOJ “logistics and staffing division”, presumably to discuss the personnel needs of his assignment.
Redacted Mueller report released to the public on 4/18/19.
Records show 18 scheduled meetings and three scheduled phone calls between Barr and Durham after between that date and the end of 2019.
April 2019, Barr tells Senate Appropriations Comm that he intended to review “both the genesis and the conduct of intelligence activities directed at the Trump campaign during 2016.”
May 2019, the New York Times reported that Barr had appointed Durham “to examine the origins of the Russia investigation” According to Justice Department officials, Durham’s probe quietly absorbed a separate investigation by the U.S. Attorney in Utah, John Huber, which had also been examining the FBI’s surveillance of Carter Page, and other FBI conduct.
May 23, 2019, Trump announced that, at Barr’s request, the IC had been directed “to quickly and fully cooperate with the Attorney General’s investigation into surveillance activities during the 2016 Presidential election.” Trump supplemented this directive by issuing a presidential memorandum that authorized Barr to “declassify, downgrade, or direct the declassification or downgrading of information or intelligence that relates [to the Durham probe].”
In the second half of 2019, Barr was in Rome at least twice, and visited London once, while also having Trump contact British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to insure Durham received any necessary assistance. Barr reached out to the Australian government to secure Durham the opportunity to interview Alexander Downer, the Australian government official with whom George Papadopoulos had met.
By October 2019, the New York Times was reporting that Durham’s inquiry was pursuing the existence of anti-Trump bias and “whether CIA officials might have somehow tricked the FBI into opening the Russia investigation.”
December 2019, Horowitz released a redacted version of his report. The Horowitz Report made no reference to the Durham investigation, but among the findings and conclusions he reached, the one that seems to most closely encroach upon the areas Durham is pursuing is Horowitz’s conclusion that Crossfire Hurricane was adequately authorized and predicated under prevailing Justice Department and FBI policies.
Immediately after, Barr commented: “The Inspector General’s report now makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken”.
Durham also released a rare public statement, noting that unlike the resources available to Horowitz, his inquiry had access to “developing information from other persons and entities, both in the U.S. and outside of the U.S.”
This takes us into 2020 and I’ll just add one final Barr comment:
“Barr has continued to say that Durham’s job is not to “prepare a report” but “to bring to justice people who are engaged in abuses if he can show that they were criminal violations, and that’s what the focus is on.”
Its in the ballpark, at least.

It is my belief, and I may be a minority of one, that Durham was tasked by Sessions/Trump at his inception, the day Q first posted. Q has made a point of pointing this out. More than once. There is a reason for that.
I believe the investigation was on the Q.T. and very hush, hush. For obvious reasons.
