A BRITISH ex-public schoolboy has been stripped and flogged 24 times in a Singapore jail for drugs offences.
London-born Ye Ming Yuen, 31, was strapped to a large wooden bench before being brutally beaten.
He was punished in the 'caning room' in Changi Prison where he is currently serving 20 years for his crimes.
The former Westminster School pupil's caning came after he had his second appeal rejected by the Singaporean courts.

Chew gum in Singapore and you get a Death sentence
Are you saying you’re good with a 50 cane lashing for a 5’5” 145 lb. as well as for a 6’2” 220 lb. ?
Heck, can we put Singapore in charge of Seattle?
Note to self: Don’t deal drugs in Singapore.
“Are you saying youre good with a 50 cane lashing for a 55 145 lb. as well as for a 62 220 lb. ?”
All that said, strokes of a cane might be a more merciful sentence that a long time imprisoned (I realize this guy got 20 years + the caning). Instead of sending a criminal of a less than capital crime to years in prison, wouldn’t an hour of intense pain and a week or month of recovery be more merciful and for that matter more likely to reduce recidivism?
I used to work with juvenile criminals and they really didn’t like getting hurt. They certainly didn’t mind inflicting pain on others, but for themselves, they objected strenuously.
I know that corporal punishment is no longer part of western criminal punishment, but I don’t think imprisonment is much of an improvement.
I think we ought to institute it in the US. I don't care if we do it Singapore style or Indonesia style but lots of pain for a short period of time and then they usually get out and don't cost the taxpayers money from jail.
Plus they have scars to remind them of what real punishment is like.
They'll whip your azz.
In some countries they'd have long ago killed him. He ought to be grateful for that, at least.
What do they teach the children in the British public schools that cause them to lead a life of crime?
Note that they show him eating an ice cream cone and petting his doggie.
” All that said. strokes of a cane might be a more merciful sentence that a long term imprisonment.”
Seriously ? Then I guess you’re good with a “merciful” sentence for a perp who addicted your daughter to meth, right?
Gotta be merciful to the evil rather than protect society, right ?
Locking someone up does protect societyas long as the criminal is locked up. Of course while he is locked up, society pays for his ‘three hots and a cot’. Many nations in that part of the world inflict death upon those who import or deal drugs. I don’t think we’re allowed to do that.
My point is that the infliction of pain might well deter this behavior more than prison sentences. It is cheaper for society and might well convince the criminal to pursue other options in life.
But you bring up an interesting point. What to do with the criminal? What is the best solution for both society and him? Killing him prevents any recidivism, but society seems to reject that out of hand except for the most heinous of crimes. Long prison sentences are one solution, but society seems to be shying away from that as well and there is the expense of feeding him, housing him and keeping him well in a prison environment isn’t cheap. Society doesn’t seem to be willing to pay the price.
No one has apparently come up with a solution, short of killing criminals. What do you suggest? A perp addicts your daughter. I know what you’d like to do to him, but what should society do to him. What, short of death, would be the best way to keep him from doing it to someone else’s daughter?
YES, women can be caned in Singapore & in several other “formerly British” nations. - The MAXIMUM is 4 strokes on the palm of the hand with a 30”-long 1/4” rattan cane.
Men under 55YO may received a MAXIMUM of 10 strokes with a 40”-long 1/2” rattan cane on the bare buttocks.
(The usual number of strokes is 2, 4 or 6 strokes.- Fwiw, I was told by a former allied student & LTC of the Singapore Military Police, when I was on the staff of ASTD, that sentences of 10 strokes are “reserved for” murderers, rapists, armed robbers, kidnappers & child molesters. - Premeditated murder & kidnapping for ransom may be punished with BOTH caning & hanging <30 days later.)
Men 55YO & older are NEVER caned. - Instead, they receive 3-5 additional years in prison.
The BEST ADVICE: Do NOT commit serious crimes in Singapore.

What is the surprise,,,,Singapore has been caning for years.....It even states on your VISA that Drug Dealing is Punishable by Death in caps all across the document.......You never see a uniformed police officer because they are plainclothes and everywhere......It is safe to walk the streets at 0200 in the morning without fear......
This is the future of the USA if democrats and muslims take control of government.

Since Singapore has the death penalty for drug dealing, he got off lightly.
No, it is not. It was explained to me very clearly that even though the all-night store was just around the corner and next to my hotel, I should not go there myself at night. The hotel people said that if I had a need, to tell them and they would, for free, make my purchases. The Singaporeans said that although they have a good, safe reputation, that is NOT the reality.
Why should it be short of death? Death penalties workrd for millenia.
Time to resume them.
I agree.
I have been to many foreign countries. One thing I always remembered is that I am a guest. It’s their country and their rules. Those that forget are usually the ones that get into serious trouble.
That’s how you fight a War on Drugs.
