“Are you saying youre good with a 50 cane lashing for a 55 145 lb. as well as for a 62 220 lb. ?”
All that said, strokes of a cane might be a more merciful sentence that a long time imprisoned (I realize this guy got 20 years + the caning). Instead of sending a criminal of a less than capital crime to years in prison, wouldn’t an hour of intense pain and a week or month of recovery be more merciful and for that matter more likely to reduce recidivism?
I used to work with juvenile criminals and they really didn’t like getting hurt. They certainly didn’t mind inflicting pain on others, but for themselves, they objected strenuously.
I know that corporal punishment is no longer part of western criminal punishment, but I don’t think imprisonment is much of an improvement.
I think we ought to institute it in the US. I don't care if we do it Singapore style or Indonesia style but lots of pain for a short period of time and then they usually get out and don't cost the taxpayers money from jail.
Plus they have scars to remind them of what real punishment is like.

Seriously ? Then I guess you’re good with a “merciful” sentence for a perp who addicted your daughter to meth, right?
Gotta be merciful to the evil rather than protect society, right ?
I agree.
