What Does Having an IQ Higher Than Einstein Mean?
Science-a2z ^ | July 31st, 2020 | Jen Aguilar

Nishi Uggalle, the latest crowned champion of Channel 4’s Child Genius show, is believed to possess an IQ “higher than Einstein’s”. Impressive as it sounds for a 12-year-old winning a junior Mastermind programme, but does the comparison with the infamous physicist actually mean anything? And how seriously should we consider IQ (intelligence quotient) as a benchmark of a person’s intellectual capacity?

The most notable issue is that nobody knows what Albert Einstein’s IQ was because he never took the test. It is presumed he would have an IQ score of over 160.

The Mensa spokeswoman says there is an immense correlation between high IQ and career success, good health, and longevity, yet she also believes a high IQ can result in social isolation.

One of Mensa’s goals is to unite “gifted” children because their general age group may find them a tad eccentric. I know a lot of chess players who are amazing problem-solvers but are struggling with “real” life....excerpted.

Pretty much nothing. It’s what you do with it that counts.

I don’t think it means much. Einstein had creativity, imagination, faith, and a real sense of passion and beauty, the beauty to be found in nature and the universe.

He was one of a kind.

Einstein, Edison and J.M. Browning all said something similar.

It is mostly hard work and concentration along with a bit of intelligence.

To answer the headline, - that intuition is more important than intelligence for breakthru knowledge?

Plenty of people with high IQs lie on the couch and smoke dope all day.

Mensa published an article supporting eugenics several years ago. Not very smart. High IQ isn’t necessarily related to wisdom, motivation or common sense.

Oh, yeah. I forgot hard work. I’m supposed to be pretty intelligent, not like Einstein, but okay.

However I do have a tendency to sit on my butt and watch T.V. LOL!

Seriously, I am working on a book and looking for better online writing and editing jobs; because of my circumstances, that’s what I need.

I can tell there are some very high IQ’s here at FR, and I wonder if they all have similar experiences? Watching people do dumb stuff around them and you can’t stop them because they won’t understand...

It’s extremely frustrating.

(IQ 142 here)

I actually tested at 170 once upon a time. I've had several invitations to join MENSA, I always decline.

If you ever meet a MENSA member, the first thing you'll find out about them is that they are a MENSA member.

'Hi, I'm smarter than you.'

I'm high-IQ, and have no problems meeting similarly smart people without need of Mensa. Most smart people meet similarly-smart people in college, work, or by living in affluent neighborhoods next to other high achievers.

From what I've seen of the Mensa members, many seem to be high-IQ people who are dysfunctional in some way.
