I have received no mail for six days. I just phone the Postmaster and he said he has received maybe ten calls today.
This is a rural route.
He does not know why but they are only getting a third or fourth as much mail as they usually do.
I typically get 2 or 3 pieces of mail a day. It is not unusual for me to skip a day but I don’t think I have ever gone 3, much less 6 days with no delivery.
I’m in the burbs and have noticed a huge amount of delays lately, as have my neighbors. Of course the China Virus is a factor, heavier volume of stuff being mailed, etc. But, of course that means we need mail-in voting /s
I have seen a few videos of people going in to the post office with this same complaint.
I have an inside source at the post office.
As you know they’ve been teetering on the brink of bankruptcy for years. Trump appointed a new Postmaster General to try and right the ship. First thing he did was to forbid the payment of overtime.
At the post office they always racked up a lot of overtime because whatever mail came in that day had to get out the same day to be delivered, whatever it took. The new boss chose to save payroll over meeting that standard and instructed them just to do what they could do before their hours ran out and leave the rest.
Obviously that did not survive First Contact with reality and is being rethought as we speak.
Sounds like just the organization to which we should entrust the presidential elections. ;-)
Interesting.
Ditto.
This is a small rural post office. I am maybe 20 miles from the post office but near the start of my route’s delivery and often get my mail by 9:30.
I sent a birthday card to someone in the next town. Arrived one week later (after the birthday). I have talked to other people who have similar tales of simple envelopes taking weeks to arrive.
So all of those people who wait days before the election to mail their ballots, how will that work out if timing doesn’t improve? Waiting for ballots might delay the election results and provide lots of cover for shenanigans.
it took a week and a half for a letter from 1 1/2 hours up the California coast to finally reach me!!!!
Just preparing for Mail-in voting.
USPS will need maximum delays and incompetence to achieve Democrat goals.
And of course, vote by mail is a great solution.
Interesting...
I work at the post office and mail has been slow (because its summer) but isnt any lower than usually for this time of year. It might be a little less because business arent sending out any advertising as they are shut down due to corona. Ive heard some cities are incredibly short handed right now though.
Did the Postmaster act like he cared enough about this situation, that he was going to track it back further? Like, where does the mail come from, that normally comes through his venue?
Or is he just sitting there, scratching his chin, and wondering why all the USPS customers in his territory are no longer getting mail?
I’m in Direct Mail, largest shop in my state. Volume is way down, because business is way down in many sectors. Take In my specialty for example: travel and tourism. GONE.
Early on in the COVID apocalypse, we were doing boatloads of “Our Covid-19 Policy” letters and cards. That’s over too.
The new Postmaster General immediately slammed the brakes on paying OT to sort/deliver Standard Rate (bulk) mailings. This is causing a lot of grief for some of our largest volume mailers.
Could be.
I usually get great service from the USPS, but some of the stuff I ordered a month ago took three weeks to get here, when it usually takes three days or less, and I still haven’t received a few things, although some of them could be hung up in Customs rather than by the Post Office.
