Bump
The German soldiers were up on a hill as our troops came off the boats at Normandy.. killing all American troops they could.. and the troops knew what awaited them as they got off the boats... nevertheless... they came and died...
where are we today?
How successful were the landings? At the end of the day, WE WON!
I really wish more people would read more history, particularly military history. If they did perhaps they would better understand the sacrifices made for us, so we could have what we have today.
I believe then people would be less likely to throw the gift of freedom at the feet of a virus.
My father and all his brothers played craps with their young lives (voluntarily) so these unelected jerks could play God with MY life?
How successful? Went all the way to Berlin in 11 months.

and the 4,500 dead in the first hour ...

For the real history buffs, look up the practice landing at Dieppe.
There was also an instance where the Nazis got into another practice landing while they were at sea. Really awful.
Churchill said he would be damned if would tell a mother her son died storming a beach named "Jellyfish" so they changed that to Juno.
Omaha beach- The first wave got it hard. They dropped them off in waist deep water only to find out that the troops had to wade through the channels that were over their heads in some cases.
Other boats were zero’d in by the Germans with their MG42s and one burst, the whole group was gone. Those troops were fed a huge breakfast before they disembarked. The result was that most were sick. Besides that, they were WAAAYYYY over loaded. All they needed was ammo, water, and a few articles of food. Instead they had them put on some 60 plus pounds of equipment. A lot of them drowned, and couldnt run when they did get onshore. How the hell do you move after wading in water with all that weight on? I bet those packs weighed over 100 pounds after they managed to get onshore.
The bombing along the beaches did nearly nothing.
But, at Utah beach, things went rather well. TR Jr said, after they figured out they landed a little off from the zone..”Might as well start this right here.”
How successful? For a few decades, very successful.
Unfortunately the success ended.
Today’s Europe is covered in spreading cancer-sores of Islam-dominated no-go zones, where empty churches burn, women walk in fear, and Jews pack their bags
Only a few remember, fewer care. Ancient history.
I always think of the photographer who filmed one of those landings. What a job! But sadly, he filmed two brave soldiers coming out of the water, and one of them goes down— having been shot.
Every American should visit the American Cemetary in Normandy at least once in their lives.

Read “The Far Shore” by Cmdr. Edward Ellsberg. Among other episodes, he tells of an unsung “erratic officer who bugged anyone handy that the Mulberries would not be ready for the invasion”.
It turned out that as they were completed, they were taken to a Brit coastal area and sunk in shallow water, waiting to be raised in time to be towed to Normandy.
The guy griped so much, Ellsberg, an experienced salvage officer, was sent to check it out. He asked the Brits if they had tried to raise one as a test. They said there was no need, British Army engineers knew what they were doing.
Ellsberg said the equivalent of “Let’s try it just for grins.” It turned out the British army engineers didn’t know what they were doing. They were using giant sewage pumps from London which were designed to move water horizontally, not vertically.
Low level hysteria followed, with Churchill himself coming out to see. Ellsberg volunteered the U.S. Navy but the Brits huffed and puffed and brought in their own navy engineers and saved the day.
Can you imagine, the invasion is going down and the military is told they can’t get the Mulberries refloated? IMO, the invasion would have failed or been called off.
Yet this event is not even recognized.
