Amid growing pressure from Native American groups, sponsors, and even the city's mayor, the Washington Redskins have announced they will conduct a 'thorough review' of the team's name, which is considered by many to be offensive. 'In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team's name,' read the statement. 'This review formalizes the initial discussions the team has been having with the league in recent weeks.' Friday's statement came after the team received a formal name-change request from FedEx, which was ostensibly using its leverage as the title sponsor of the Redskins' stadium in Landover, Maryland to persuade franchise owner Daniel Snyder.

There's a great irony in all of this. Just think of all the targets we've seen in recent weeks of all this nonsense: the iconic Land O' Lakes woman, Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, and now the Washington Redskins.

It honestly looks to me as if some white supremacist movement is using these fools to pressure American companies to eliminate all images of black people and Indians from our consumer brands.

But it is/was a part of our cultural experience. We used to be a proudly Christian nation. Again the Zulus Wars weren’t a part of either our national or cultural history.

How long until the state of Indiana, city of Indianapolis, etc. need to change their names?

And some states need to change as well. Weren’t there Dakota Indians, so that both North Dakota and South Dakota will have to delete their names? I think there were Ute Indians in Utah, so that has to go as well.

And don’t forget the state of Washington needs to go, because Washington owned slaves, so his name has to be deleted from both the state and Washington, DC.

Yes there are many sports nicknames which are offensive to someone.

Boston Celtics is offensive to the real Celtic people.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish is offensive to the Irish.

Dallas Cowboys is offensive to real cowboys.

Green Bay Packers is offensive to real meat packers.

And all the animal nicknames are offensive to the PETA radicals.

I heard that last year and by end of last year stands were full again.

Same with Nascar. All those Southern boys displayed their confederate flags outside but put them away when they went inside like little sheeple.
