Amid growing pressure from Native American groups, sponsors, and even the city's mayor, the Washington Redskins have announced they will conduct a 'thorough review' of the team's name, which is considered by many to be offensive. 'In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team's name,' read the statement. 'This review formalizes the initial discussions the team has been having with the league in recent weeks.' Friday's statement came after the team received a formal name-change request from FedEx, which was ostensibly using its leverage as the title sponsor of the Redskins' stadium in Landover, Maryland to persuade franchise owner Daniel Snyder.

The revolution continues...
Like Red Mesa High School on the Navajo Nation in Arizona?
They are finally going to cave. Can’t stand the pressure being brought about by the 2-3% of the population that want to over throw this country. Glad I’m old and won’t be around for the final nail in the coffin.
Rename to Washington Wilters
Because they wilt under pressure..
Also, the NY Knicks, short for Knickerbockers, Dutch settlers who did their fair share of plundering and oppressing the indigenous peoples.
Washington Snow Flakes.
Been a Redskins fan for 30+ years since the days of the Hogs and the Fun Bunch. No more. They change the name, they’re dead to me.
}:-)4
How about challenging Nike regarding their using Chinese Communist slave labor to make their products first?
“...Washington Snow Flakes...”
That’s too “whitey”...
Sports are dead to me. They don’t exist in my world.
Remember what they did to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux.
Washington Pussy Hats
Washington Pussy Hats
Rename to Washington Yellow Bellies.
Washington has got to go too. The Fighting George Floyd’s makes some sense for a new name.
Apparently for that team name changing is a tradition. They’ve done it 6 times.
The franchise was established in 1961 as the Chicago Packers based in Chicago, Illinois, and were renamed to Chicago Zephyrs the following season. In 1963, they relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, and became the Baltimore Bullets, taking the name from a previous team of the same name. In 1973, the team changed its name to the Capital Bullets to reflect their move to the Washington metropolitan area, and then to Washington Bullets in the following season. In 1997, they rebranded themselves as the Wizards.
A pro sports team doesn’t actually sell sports, they sell commercials and t-shirts. If they can’t do that, they’re a vanity project by a really wealthy person who can afford to burn their money. The NFL of 2020 isn’t going to have Dan Snyder’s back, and the old fanbase of the 1980’s blue collar civil servants has long since ebbed.
I’d still like to see them move to Oklahoma City and choose George Washington as their mascot, but that’s not my call.
There was the NBAs Capital Bullets at one time.
Yep, I remember the Capital Bullets. Then they became the Washington Bullets.
Then the owner deleted the Bullets nickname, because he was concerned about encouraging or endorsing gun violence.
No word on whether the youth gangs got rid of their guns when the Bullets became the Wizards.
Bullets. Now that’s as offensive as can be, bringing up images of racist police stalking young, unarmed Blacks. NBA should be canceled today, for past infractions of Wokeness. That’s the it works now, according to precedent of the New Rule of Being Woke, which will replace the Constitution.
Gadzooks, all this woke shite is grinding me down.
Thanks for the info, dfwgator. )
Years ago, Dan Snyder had said they would never change the name of the Redskins.
I don’t know his politics, or about the inner workings of the NFL, as to why now he is bending and will probably get rid of the Redskins name.
DC Indigenous Peoples, Washington Pigskins, Capital City Wokers
