Rocker Sammy Hagar is over coronavirus lockdowns and said hed rather perform concerts and die from COVID-19 than watch the economy plummet.
The 72-year-old former Van Halen frontman said in a Rolling Stone interview that hed be comfortable playing a show before theres a vaccine.
Im going to make a radical statement here. This is hard to say without stirring somebody up, but truthfully, Id rather personally get sick and even die, if thats what it takes, he said.
The Red Rocker, who in the past has said he supports Trump, says he wants to leave behind a strong economy for his children and grandchildren.
I would rather see everyone go back to work. If some of us have to sacrifice on that, OK. I will die for my children and my grandchildren to have a life anywhere close to the life that I had in this wonderful country."
Hagar was interviewed alongside 14 other artists who spoke about life without live concerts. Large music events, such as Coachella, Stagecoach and Ultra Music Festival have been cancelled since the coronavirus pandemic thats sickened more than 9.2 million people and killed more than 477,800 worldwide. Even as states continue to reopen, other music events are being postponed.
Im not going to go around spreading the disease. But there may be a time where we have to sacrifice. I mean, how many people die on the Earth every day? Hagar said. Im sorry to say it, but we all gotta die, man.
Uhhh, that was Eddie Van Halen that married Valerie.
But forget it, you’re rolling!
I can’t drive 55 and I can’t wear a mask.
She’s a Claymontster.
*** “I cant drive 55” ***
Ya beat me by that much
I have only seen a couple "live music" clubs listing shows (this for rooms that would normally top out at 250 people) and charging double at the door since the occupancy has been reduced.
I have only seen one live performance myself since the shutdown and that was at a bar/restaurant.
Yeah, but it doesn’t mean dying.
Not any more than otherwise.
Heck, I’m straight and I would’ve happily married Valerie, too! ;)
Nice to see Sammy saying what so many of us are thinking!
This has been such an overblown BS situation, I can hardly get my brain around it some days.
I distrust Mother Government from the git-go. Now she has convinced me that she’s NEVER worthy of being listened to. She has totally crossed the line with me. Totally.
P.S. I love President Trump. He’s doing a stellar job with one eye blinded, his hands tied behind his back and dancing backwards in high heels.
So, SO TIRED of the PUKES we have in office. I can name on ONE HAND the people in Government I currently trust - and I’m sure 4 of the 5 will do something to annoy me before the week is through! Grrrrrrrr!
That gives new meaning to “There’s only one way to rock.”
Very well said.
And Valerie Bertinelli separated from Eddie Van Halen in 2001 and divorced in 2007 because of his cocaine addiction and because he wouldn’t stop smoking even though he had oral cancer and losing a third of his tongue.
I have felt for sometime that this is the choice we are going to have to make.
Eventually.
We cannot close down. We cannot stay closed indefinitely. We cannot continue to give money to people to stay home.
The future of our country is worth more than individual lives. And that includes my own.
I dont have a death wish, I love life. Im in one of those groups where are the Virus could be a serious thing for me.
But I think that sacrificing the future of our children, grandchildren, and their children So that some of us will be able to live right now simply is not right.
This is not the black death with a 40% mortality rate. If it were, I would feel differently about it.
But it isnt. And I think we have to come to terms with this.
I have said before, that there is an analogy for this: in the Navy, there used to be a saying:
A warship in a harbor is a safe ship, but that is not what warships are for.
Likewise, a human cloistered in a sealed building as a hermit may (in some peoples minds) be a safe human, but that is not what we as humans are made for.
He Wants the Best of Both Worlds.
Totally with you on this.
Her book was a great read; couldn’t put it down. (Losing It)
She was EXTREMELY kind to Eddie, all things considered. I read it after I kicked out my own drug-abusing, low-life of a husband, so I could relate...except I wasn’t a Ba-Zillionaire, LOL!
I wouldn’t have been so kind if I had written a Memoir of those days. ;)
Van Hagger sucks, OK I Said it.
I wish there was a reason to play I can’t drive 55 at a trump rally :-)
I love you Diana in Wisconsin, in a very freeper sort of way... Some of my neighbors and friends applaud my description of the virus as nonsense, but none of us knows when this ends. It’s a powerful stupid none of us saw coming, and the news media seems to be better equipped than ever at playing this BS card. Hold your ground and indeed keep looking up to the only hope we have.
They can play “Remember the Heroes”
