Members of the U.S. Senate have expressed concern that the U.S. military, as well as other federal government agencies, have not been giving the appropriate amount of attention to reports of encounters with unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAP, more commonly referred to as unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, which may be linked to America's adversaries. They are now looking to order the Director of National Intelligence to work with other relevant agencies to produce a report detailing just what information they have on UAPs already, how that data is collected and processed, how it is getting shared, and just what kind of threats or other risks these objects might pose.
*snip*
It is known that the Navy has been the service providing classified briefings on UAPs to senior members of Congress ever since the New York Times published its first detailed exposé on the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), and its predecessors, which also focused in part on investigating reports of unidentified aerial objects, in 2017. Some legislators have already expressed their concerns about the substance of the information that service has been providing, whether the known UAP encounters represent potential threats to national security, and whether those issues are being taken seriously, as the War Zone, among others, has reported in the past.
The specific mention that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been collecting information about UAP sightings is also notable, if not surprising, as well. The bureau was among the U.S. government agencies that were known to be involved in the investigations into still unexplained sightings of unidentified objects flying over various parts of Colorado and Nebraska, including near sensitive U.S. Air Force facilities, between December 2019 and January 2020, though there's no indication this incident was a direct factor in the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence request. The War Zone has continued to explore that story in detail, which you can read more about here and here.
In addition to information from the Navy and the FBI specifically, the Senate wants to see any other data on UAPs derived from basically any other intelligence sources and methods available to the U.S. government. It specifically mentions geospatial intelligence (GEOINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), human intelligence (HUMINT), and measurement and signals intelligence (MASINT).

I guess Senators don’t have more important issues to worry about do they?
Editors suck. The author is clear to distinguish that UAPs are not what we think of as UFOs, and then the editor goes with that misleading name in the headline anyway.
To the military/intelligence/air traffic control, a “UFO” is a flying object without a transponder. “Unidentified” doesn’t mean it’s mysterious, only that it hasn’t identified itself to us. The Senate isn’t concerned with extraterrestrials; they’re concerned that our adversaries are flying all sorts of crap all over the place, and the military/intelligence communities are incurious about what’s happening.
It’s not like we haven’t already had a reptilian as President. 8 years of it.
Just reveal already.

Of course they want to know, but these Psyfi-ops are above their pay grade.
they could always just be happy watching the MiB documentaries or listening to old Art Bell shows.
Although I have been told that it is all a big fat nothing by someone who would have known.
Why not? Then they can say whitey is racist against ET too.
We just got a very clear confirmation that our enemies were willing to wage fantastically costly, highly unprecedented forms of warfare against us, and that the intelligence community, mass media and social media were all willing to do every last thing they could to help magnify the effectiveness of that warfare. In that context, determining what exactly those enemies have been penetrating our airspace with seems very relevant.
Naval aviators who have seen these "tic-tacs" and other craft say we have no defense against them (i.e., they outperform our aircraft to an extreme degree). If, for example, these are Chinese drones, we need to know the details.
Very nicely put.
In the words of Cdr. David Fravor (a pilot on record), whatever these things are, they are beyond just being "unidentified."
At the beginning of Bush43, one the Clintonistas was hired by the SyFy channel, and he promoted his SyFy projects by attacking the Bush admin to “tell the truth” about UFOs.
So, this crooked numbnutt was in the Clinton admin for probably 8 years, why didn’t he get the Bent One to release the info when he had the chance?
Because there’s nothing there that isn’t explainable.
Let’s give up classified info about our capabilities to satisfy a handful of fringe kooks.
Great idea.
Podesta is still working with the “disclosure” crowd. So, rightly or wrongly, he hasn’t concluded there’s nothing there.
If there was anything real, useful, and profitable in alien stuff, count on Bill and Hill to sell it to their fellow traveler commies.
“To the military/intelligence/air traffic control, a UFO is a flying object without a transponder”
Not exactly.
Many aircraft fly all over the US, outside controlled airspace, and they don’t have a transponder. I takeoff from an uncontrolled field and don’t squawk does not make me a UFO as commonly understood.
A transponder is a code that if flying VFR the pilots dial in 1200 and that means nothing until the pilot identifies himself to ATC, either through squawking ident or through verifying location via ground reference or some other identifying maneuver.
UFO means Unidentified Flying Object, meaning just that. . .it was flying and unidentified.
“Although I have been told that it is all a big fat nothing by someone who would have known.”
But. . .you haven’t talked to me. :-(
Let’s face it, the president has been colluding with an alien race from beyond! IMPEACH!
The Senate is acting like a dog chasing a UPS truck.
What are they supposed to do when they catch one?
I never said EVERY flying object is a UFO. You’re right in that UFOs are only planes (and yes, other things) that SHOULD have a transponder to be flying where they are and don’t.
I used to go to my Dad’s work at the FAA. There were various radar CRTs scattered outside the control tower. (I guess they were for testing?) I used to play on them and watch the UFOs go by. Where we were, they were most commonly planes going back and forth to Cuba.
