Corona Virus Daily Thread #52 COVID-19 5/12/2020
:-)
I can’t remember the other names, either. :-(
I think our FRiend, Nully, was one of the first FReepers to post about the mysterious China/Wuhan Flu, IIRC.
I had compiled the early thread postings list, on another thread, and just brought them over here/CV thread, to you....to combine.
A wonderful recap and repository, of this time in history. Thank you for carrying on/over, to each new thread.
Yep, much as suspected no one knows jack about it or what to do. As said before, we’re on our own.
He’s an idiot. Given that asymptomatic children (and maybe asymptomatic young adults) are not as contagious as other folks, I don’t see a problem with opening schools and colleges for summer campus. I wouldn’t have catch-up learning until fall, to prevent crowding, which typically isn’t as bad for summer school, as far as I know.
New work crews next door every day who spend their time on their phones instead of finishing a little job started six months ago. Neighborhood weekend rentals all full. Tourists from who knows where out on the lake partying throughout the entire shut down.
“Today marks the lowest number of COVID-19 positive patients currently hospitalized statewide (1,203) since hospitals began reporting this data on April 8th, he posted Saturday.”
Also showing a low positivity rate in testing.
Of course the media, after a week of forecasting doom for Ga will not report this success (so far).
My nephew who is in his 30s and the Navy has been testing positive for 3 weeks now. He is still in quarantine with no symptoms.
There is a bunch of them in still quarantine. It has kill two from his group so far.
“SARS-CoV-2 Rates in BCG-Vaccinated vs Unvaccinated Young Adults https://ja.ma/2T3IhKj
This suggests no significant differences in COVID infection with and without BCG vaccination”
Been wondering about that. Not definitive, but a clue.
Report from NYC:
First day that people seem to be getting a taste of what it will be like when this is over. More on the sidewalks, more car traffic, more people riding bikes . . . a nice day.
Some of the restaurants tried the takeout-or-delivery-only route and have now closed down. It’s obvious they weren’t breaking even by staying open, or else their staff got sick or refused to come in. Makes me sad. Others are doing a nice “curbside” thing with a bar/table between the inside and the sidewalk.
McDonald’s going OK but Popeye’s had to close down.
All meetings are now by Internet only.
I haven’t been out of my neighborhood but people say some areas are spooky, with no people. Like Lincoln Center area. I think that will gradually change, especially if those restaurants start to open a bit there.
Sometimes the sadness is overwhelming, but it was worse at the peak when it seemed like there was no stopping it.
survivor finale is tonight. Jeff Probst says they shipped him the set and he did it himself in the garage.
Contestents will Zoom in.
It will be a miracle if it’s not a fiasco.

AMazing Race will start their season now. I dont see how they can do any more seasons of Amazing race for a very long time.
Checking in. Thanks for the ping.

The ‘Western States Pact” is demanding $1T in ‘virus reparations’
I suggest that every elected representative in each state asking, including the governors and their entire administrative network, take a 6-month paycut to unemployment-level wages, instead of adding another trillion to our grandchildren’s tax burden. They can use that payroll savings to fund their mismanagement. (Such as hiring ‘private detectives’ at inflated wages for contact tracing instead of utilizing existing unemployment/welfare dept employees already on payroll and sitting at home collecting pension time). Maybe then, they will understand the impact the virus has had on the ‘little people’. And not be so flippant in their outrageous requests for spending, spending, spending at the expense of the rest of the country.
I read about that earlier. They are a RFID manufacturer IIRC, thats going to raise some eyebrows

Looks like we’ll get an idea soon of NK’s battle against the virus. Wouldn’t surprise me to see they’ve done well- after all it’s just one big open air prison.
“North Korea seems to be pulling out all the stops for a major 75th-anniversary military parade.
- Big renovations in KIS square (much of it closed off to locals)
- Mirim parade training ground expansion (see GIF)
@ColinZwirko wrote on May 7 on this:
They offer their product with an RFID chip, but the chip is disposed of with the syringe, not injected. It helps track when, where and who was vaccinated. Of course some people will claim it is something else. For the truly paranoid, all they need to know is that ApiJect receives support and advice from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and PATH.
Levity post...

Thanks for the report.
So sad to see my native city this way.
“Up to”... “Up to”... infinity!
Very deceptive.
But yeah, they could test twice.
