Would You Let The Government Track Your Smartphone If It Meant We Could Reopen Sooner?
Newsweak ^ | 5/08/20 | David H. Freedman

Before the pandemic, the plan would have seemed like something ripped from a distant dystopian future in which the human race fully surrenders to Big Tech. On the April 10 online document, the logos of Google and Apple sat atop a description of the companies' joint plan to enable America's cellphones to keep track of everyone with whom their owners come into contact.

Who would sign on to such extensive surveillance? Much of the world already has. In South Korea, health officials use apps and video cameras to track down people who came into contact with COVID-19 patients before symptoms appeared. China, Singapore and Australia already have phone-based contact-tracing in place, and much of Europe is following suit. The UK's National Health Service, for instance, has endorsed a scheme that's undergoing a pilot test, and Germany's government is close behind.

As U.S. governors consider how to open up and allow people to go back to work, experts warn that the coronavirus, which is still in circulation, is almost certain to flare up again. To avoid more emergency-room disasters like the one that overwhelmed New York City in April, public-health officials must act aggressively to stop small outbreaks before they develop into big ones. The key, experts say, is contact tracing. For each new COVID-19 case, health care workers would develop a list of people the patient might have interacted with before symptoms developed. Then they would contact each one and recommend self-quarantine.

Nope. If this is the best the government can do, to destroy the nation, then we really don’t need the government. It it defeating its purpose.

At some point the tracking will phase into some sort of Mark on your hand or forehead. If you test negative for coronavirus then you’re good to work and operate in commerce. If you test positive and are not sick, you’re good. If you’ve been sick and recover then you’re good. But if you have not been tested then you can’t participate in commerce unless you have the Mark. Pretty clear where this is going. Everything that has been prophesied in the Bible has come true or will come true. Bet your life and soul on it Amen.

the Newsweek writer is just like the media in Australia - they all make it sound like something WE should all do together. what a disgrace they are. mind you, Australia hasn’t taken it as far as this city in India...yet:

6 May: Business Insider: A city in India is ordering all of its residents to download the government’s controversial COVID-19 contact tracing app or face jail time
by Connor Perrett
Police in Noida, India, a city outside of New Delhi, ordered all residents to download Aarogya Setu, a COVID-19 contact tracing app developed by the Indian government.
City residents found without the application face a fine of around $13 USD and up to six months in jail, BuzzFeed News reported.

Police did not say what would happen if a person did not own a smartphone, which less than half of Indian citizens do...

Next thing you know they will have a better idea. It lost us install this little chip. And while we’re at it it will be used as your credit card. Yoj can run your hand over a scanner at the store. Never worry about your forgetting your wallet again. While we’re at it we can use that nifty little chip if you have it to deposit your 10,000 a month for you your spouse (heck can even be a same sex spouse) and up to three kids. When does that end? Three months after the declared emergency ends. But since we all know some pneumonia will be back next year we don’t ever have to test again and we can just call all those deaths CoVId. Voila. Never ending emergency. $120k a year. No cost to you (except your soul)

It’s good to have a phone with you as you’re out and about for emergency reasons.

Keep it in a Faraday shield (wrapped in foil, inside a metal box, or a commercially available shield pouch), and take it out only if you need to use it.

You won’t get calls or texts, but the OS won’t get GPS information, so no tracking.

Over my dead body.

Don’t have a smartphone anyways and am planning on leaving my phone home for many trips hereafter. They don’t need to know where I’m going and if I spend cash, what I’m buying.

I’m tired and fed up with people prying into my personal business.

The only thing is, they’ll know the phone has disappeared. If you leave it at home, then they are still tracking it but don’t know you’re doing something you don’t want them to know about.

joint plan to enable America's cellphones to keep track of everyone with whom their owners come into contact

Odd because I thought the GPS us peons have access to with OUR devices, was only accurate to a 3 meter distance/radius. Do google/apple get access to something more accurate on OUR phones to be able to know who we've had 'contact' with?

No. Period. Just open the economy. Now.

That is not happening. The sheep opened Pandora's Box when they demanded that the Government take control of them and make them feel secure. This control the Government is not going to give up easily. The worse is yet to come.

How about this: Would you let the government track your cell phone if it meant that ALL liberal/progressive/democrat voices on the air waves, in classrooms, anywhere information is disseminated were preceded by a 30 second blast of that testing of the emergency broadast system bleep, followed by: “This is an important announcement: the following diatribe you are about to hear is pure BS and is believed to be the foundation for everything that destroys personal freedom, true justice, and pure equality. Listen at your own risk.”

An interesting site on home made faraday pouches for your phone. Or would wrapping it in tinfoil work?

If we allow the precedent, of government giving us back something they never had the right to take in the first place, be CONDITIONAL on our giving up one of our rights, then what’s next on their list of what they will demand we surrender to them?
