Marijuana was on the ballot. If the GOP has been more reasonable and conceded some regulations instead of just saying NO she wouldn’t have won.
Way back in the mid 1930’s my dad and his brother (the doctor) foraged for the wild plant and sold it to local Pharmacy and Doctors It was used for relief from many ailments. Then the rope industry got involved and because of their lobby it became illegal. My dad knew a lot about its history and was upset that they were locking people up for minor possession. He celebrated 100 Years (in heaven). Lived long enough to see the benefits of its healing properties recognized.

I firmly believe the pharmaceuticals and alcohol companies are behind it being illegal. For pain, opiates are expensive and can kill. Medical mj is cheaper and no one dies from overdose.
The argument that it is a gateway drug may be true for addictive people, but they will be on harder drugs anyway if they are inclined. Many people consume mj and nothing else ever. If states want out outlaw recreational use, that’s fine, but at least allow medical use.

I hope I don’t have to postpone cataract surgery - my vision is iffy now on whether I am driving legally or not. If I have to wait, I’ll need to ground myself for a few months ;(
