Yates first learned about Flynn's Kislyak call on January 5, 2017 while in the Oval Office during the ICA briefing. Note this is before Ignatius January 12 illegal leak column and ten days before Pence says on Face the Nation that Flynn told him he didn't discuss sanctions.

On January 5, 2017 President Obama had Yates and Comey stay behind after ICA and Obama stated he "learned of the information about Flynn" and his conversation with Kislyak about sanctions and asked whether the White House should treat Flynn any differently.
