Southwest Airlines is joining other major carriers in requiring passengers and employees who interact with them to wear face masks.

Starting Sunday, the Dallas-based airline’s employees who have contact with passengers will be required to don face coverings. Passengers will be required starting May 11.

JetBlue started the trend April 27 when it said travelers would have to cover their noses and mouths during trips, beginning next week. Delta, Alaska, United and American quickly followed.

I place it in the center console of the car and wear the same mask each time.

Of course it’s 7-10 days between trips to the grocery store. And I go early in the morning before there are many customers and while the air is still fresh. And I don’t wear it for more than about an hour.

It can’t be that contaminated, and the virus should be inactivated after that many days anyway.

They’re definitely effective if Vectors are prevented from wholesale spraying. They’re also effective if healthy people can filter out most of the viron

if you believe your mask filters out the virus, then wear it and save your life. But you have no right to assume that you are the only healthy person on the plane and that everyone else exists only to spread their deadly virus to your pristine body.

You’re just frustrated because you’ve allowed yourself to be whipped up into a hysterical panic and you’re unable to convince others to join in your self-inflicted misery.

You are really into suspension of US Constitutional rights on these extremely specious grounds.

It is ALL political now.

(you’re really worried about WuhanChina virus, right?
Never mind, don’t believe you)

the dumbing down of America on display. Idiots wearing contaminated masks they think protects them because...well, it’s a mask and the TV told us to wear one.

As opposed to idiots that won’t wear a mask, because they’ve decided they don’t work. And they decided that based on what? Oh that they don’t want to.

The AMA told healthcare workers their risk of exposure was low if they wore masked and goggles.

Hospitals in Boston saw their daily new infections among hospital workers cut over 50% after they ordered all hospital workers and patients to wear masks.

Nature Medicine has a study saying that masks are effective for coronavirus.

The graphs showing the difference in spread in countries that required masks and those that didn’t indicates it obviously helps.

Is it perfect? no. It’s not 100%. But it helps.

Forget about it.

At 87 she can’t do what she once did but she’s still good.

When I was a kid the home made Sicilian pizza and Cavatelli were incredible.

I can still smell and taste them in my head. :)

Similar to an aunt who made fantastic homemade pizza.

Health problems took over.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I wash my mask after every use.

Hey at least I won’t become a super spreader like you!

Yes. They have the Constitutional right to insist passengers wear masks. I have the freedom to not fly Southwest. That’s the awesome thing about our constitution and why this lockdown was illegal and unconstitutional. Despite what the traterious fearbros on this site think.

I don't see it that way. I think it's a smart decision. They are reducing the risk to their customers. And more customers may fly, if they know everyone will be wearing masks.

Masks aren't perfect protection, but they do help. And they help more if everyone wears them.

If I had a choice between two stores. And one required masks, that's the one I would shop at.

Dear SWA,

Your SILLY decision means that I will NOT fly again on your aircraft UNTIL you drop that FOOLISH “masking requirement”, FOREVER.
(Until you STOP requiring masks, I will drive RT from The Alamo City to Dallas.)

I strongly suspect that I will be FAR from alone in that decision.

I have a hard time being/staying “masked” long enough to run into a grocery store to buy milk, bread, eggs & cornmeal, as I did today.
(I cannot avoid eating for many days BUT can certainly NOT fly on commercial air.)

Yours, TMN78247

66,000 dead and adding 2,000 a day.

That’s one hell of a political con job.

I don’t know if it’s possible for you to be a more pompous jackass. For your information (not that it’s any of your business) I don’t wear a mask because less than one minute after I put one on I become short of breath because I have a 40% ejection fraction and I am essentially breathing in my own CO2. Since there is no way anyone can prove they make a difference, I choose to breath freely and have faith that my normal, healthy immune system will work as designed should I contract the virus.

Sorry to hear you have a non-functioning immune system. How long have you been so afflicted? Since February 2020?

Also sorry your feeble attempt to mask-shame rational, free-thinking fellow citizens is not producing your desired results. Perhaps you’d have better luck with the millennial snowflakes on twitter or Snapchat. Try #MasksOrDie.
