A 48-year-old woman who authorities called the leader of a protest Tuesday in Trenton demanding Gov. Phil Murphy reopen the state despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic was issued a summons accusing her of violating the states lockdown orders, the State Police said.
Stephanie Hazelton, of Medford, was charged with violating Executive Order No. 104, which in part bans large gatherings in the state during the crisis. No other protesters were charged and Hazleton was released after being given the summons, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez, a State Police spokesman.
The troopers showed a tremendous amount of restraint, Col. Pat Callahan, the superintendent of the State Police, said Wednesday. If social distancing isnt being observed and face coverings arent in place you will be cited accordingly with a violation of the executive order."
Hundreds of people marched Tuesday from the Statehouse to the citys War Memorial, where Murphy holds his daily coronavirus briefings. Many were not wearing masks or face coverings, the governor noted. And many were not standing at least 6 feet from each other, one of the key social-distancing protocols to help prevent the virus from spreading.
People have a right to protest," Murphy said Wednesday during his daily press briefing in Trenton. I wish they would do it from home. I dont agree with them on this. Please dont claim that were not patriotic.
I love my country, I love my state, we all do. Were trying to save lives.

First Amendment - The right to freely assemble.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Okay, I’m going to throw this out there...
If the social distancing rules are to be fully enforced, then the accused should demand a jury trial.
... and if the executive order states that gatherings must be limited to 10 or less, how do they plan on seating a jury (of 12) where the accused gets to face their accusers?
Think about that.
just my $0.02
LOLOL!
I hope the perp sues, the cops end up in jail, and the taxpayers there lose their shirts.
I bet Phil does so they can totally be ignored.
But that is not how it works Phil.
The Constitution does not contain the phrase "from home" andywhere in the First Amendment Phil
.
The interesting thing about this is that New Jersey is pursuing it vigorously.
The left wants test cases before the court.

That seems to be put rest the question of which side the police will be on in when CW2 gets hot.

They were (1) exercising freedom of speech, (2) exercising their right peaceably to assemble, and (3) exercising their right to petition government. The state police had better exercise "restraint" when facing the purest exercise of our God-given First Amendment rights. Democrats are evil creatures, which is one of the many reasons why they disgust me.
Amen. In my view, no mayor, no county official, no governor, not even the president should have the power to cancel the Bill of Rights.
God bless you, Ma’am.
The rest of the country might be about a week behind you, but the dam is breaking.
I could have told you that long ago. Hint: It ain’t yours.
Sounds like the good Col. just confirmed the NJ State Police are nothing more than a bunch of DIRTY COPS, rotten from the head down. Prove me wrong!

How can you sue a state or any state that is about to go bankrupt?
Go on and get the money and run.
