A drug thats been touted by President Donald Trump as a game changer didnt help hospitalized patients with coronavirus and was associated with heart complications, according to a new study.
This provides evidence that hydroxychloroquine does not apparently treat patients with Covid 19, said Dr. Paul Offit, an infectious disease specialist at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. Even worse, there were side effects caused by the drug heart toxicities that required it be discontinued.
Trump has said that hydroxychloroquine shows tremendous promise and has made it sound like the drug is harmless.
I think its going to be great, Trump said at a White House briefing on March 19.
What do you have to lose? Take it, he said on April 4.
Physicians have warned that while Trump is enthusiastic about the drug, it still needs to be studied to see if it works and if its safe.
People can claim what they want, but the proof is in the pudding, and this is the pudding, Offit said.
In the French study, doctors looked back at medical records for 181 patients with Covid-19 who had pneumonia and required supplemental oxygen. About half had taken hydroxychloroquine within 48 hours of being admitted to the hospital, and the other half had not.
The doctors followed the patients and found there was no statistically significant difference in the death rates of the two groups, or their chances of being admitted to the intensive care unit.
The study also raised important safety concerns about hydroxychloroquine.
In the study, eight patients who took the drug developed abnormal heart rhythms and had to stop taking it.
Abnormal heart rhythms are a known side effect of hydroxychloroquine, which has been used for decades to treat patients with diseases such as malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
Doctors in Sweden and Brazil have sounded warnings about chloroquine, a very similar drug, because of heart problems.
In the new study, among the 84 patients who took hydroxychloroquine, 20.2% were admitted to the ICU or died within seven days of taking the drug. Among the 97 patients who did not take the drug, 22.1% went to the ICU or died.
The difference was not determined to be statistically different
Looking just at deaths, 2.8% of the patients who took hydroxychloroquine died, and 4.6% of the patients who did not take it died. That difference was also not found to be statistically significant.
These results do not support the use of [hydroxychloroquine] in patients hospitalised for documented SARSCoV-2-positive hypoxic pneumonia, the study authors wrote.
The study was published Tuesday on medRxiv.org, a pre-print server founded by Yale University, the journal BMJ and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Studies published on this website have not been peer reviewed.
Let’s create a study designed to fail!
181 patients. Wonder if the study meets Faucis standards for clinical trials.
It doesn’t work on French people. Oh well.
CNN?
What is the reason for posting this from CNN?
Well, that does it. The only surefire treatment is the election of brain-dead Biden. He wins, the virus disappears the next day.
First of all, they are using it too late.
And did they use zinc?
You need to use it when the virus is replicating and trying to take hold
At the point that you are at deaths door you need to be trying the Genentech drug for the cytokine storm
Misleading and skewed. These enemedia need to be tarred and feathered.
Tested patients with pneumonia. Useless Crap. Did not mention use of Zinc and z-pack with the HCQ. Bogus study; expect more.
CNN. Is China paying for this result, or WHO?
RE: First of all, they are using it too late.
The study was designed to treat patients with already badly damaged lungs.
That was NOT what Hydroxychloroqine was intended for.
[ Friday, April 10, 2020 7:12 PM ] Nathaniel Lim: Again, all studies show that:
1. It has to be applied as soon as: a) The patient is CoVid-19 positive; and b) shows fever, coughing and/or breathing problems.
2. Do not wait till the lungs are so compromised and damaged by pneumonia and the patient needs a respirator.
If you do the above, all experience shows that the patient gets better with 6 days.
This significantly eases the burden of hospitals and healthcare workers and also reduces the death rate.
Also, Zinc is a major component of the treatment.
What many doctors observe is that the virus uses the cell as a platform to replicate. Because this invader is new, the immune system overreacts (especially true for mature individuals like the elderly) and creates what is known as a Cytokine storm, sort of like a soldier shooting at everything in sight, not differentiating between the good and bad guys, thus, killing the good as well. This causes ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome), where fluid collects in the lungs and air sacs depriving oxygen.
Hydroxychloroquine acts as an ionophore where Zinc can work to prevent the virus from replicating. Hydroxychloroquine also acts to modulate autoimmune response ( much like it does lupus ), so that the immune system’s cytokine storm calms down giving the body the chance to fight off the invader without killing its own healthy lung cells.
Azithromycin is used to fight possible bacterial infection.
These 3: HCQ + AZITHROMYCIN + ZINC, given at the right doses EARLY before the disease has the chance to progress to a more severe state is what accounts for most of the success.
This particular French study was not designed to replicate the successful cases.

Just like in oncology, certain chemo medications only work in the early stages of the disease and others only have benefit when given in advanced cases.
Re; What is the reason for posting this from CNN?
You should know me by now. Your question has been asked of me DOZENS of times by people who don’t like contrary articles that I post.
I post this so that FReepers can REFUTE the claims of the study. You are welcome to add your own comments.
There was an even larger French study that found exactly the opposite results. Imagine that. Whats more there are doctors from all over the world reporting that it does work. And that the side effects are minimal. And it saved a near 100 year old women with heart problems from the virus.
The mere fact that CNN is reporting it tells you all that you need to know.
So the French surrendered?....shocking
RE: Link to publication?
All I have is this last sentence in the article:
The study was published Tuesday on medRxiv.org, a pre-print server founded by Yale University, the journal BMJ and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Studies published on this website have not been peer reviewed.
Ninth circle of hell awaits every scumbag rooting for the virus to win.
I saw a story from several weeks ago where hydroxychloroquine was used on 80 patients in France.
78 of them recovered.
CNN FAKE NEWS!!!
