Of the 10,056 deaths in New York since the first mortality on March 14:
60% were men, 40% were women
84% of the deaths were among those age 60 and older
No matter the age, COVID-19 is a serous illness for many people with underlying chronic disease.
8,878 (88% of those who died had at least one chronic disease, with the top three identified being:
Hypertension - 64%
Diabetes - 42%

Korea is the one to watch for how to rid ourselves of this plague, IMO. Much also depends upon finding a cure.

More sailors assigned to deployed US Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt have been hospitalized due to the coronavirus, the Navy said in a statement Tuesday.
Four of the ship’s sailors are in the hospital, and one has been placed in an intensive care unit “for increased observation due to shortness of breath.” The sailor in the ICU is the second to end up there since the outbreak began.
A sailor who tested positive for the coronavirus on March 30 was found unresponsive in isolation, resuscitated using CPR, and placed in the ICU at US Naval Hospital Guam on April 9. The sailor died of coronavirus-related complications on April 13, the Navy said on Monday... As of Tuesday, 589 sailors on the carrier had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Abstract
Introduction
COVID-19 may predispose to both venous and arterial thromboembolism due to excessive inflammation, hypoxia, immobilisation and diffuse intravascular coagulation. Reports on the incidence of thrombotic complications are however not available.

I almost hate to say it, but one of the reasons I think that the death rate is going to be dropping is that as the virus takes out the vulnerable, those who are left won’t be so vulnerable.
It’s more by attrition, than anything.
When you see the nursing homes with horrific death rates, that means there’s going to be far fewer susceptible people than there were before.

Coronavirus Has Killed Thousands at U.S. Nursing Homes
By Serena Gordon
HealthDay Reporter
TUESDAY, April 14, 2020 (HealthDay News) — The numbers are staggering: More than 3,600 nursing home and long-term care residents have died due to COVID-19 infections, with a huge number occurring in just the past two weeks.
The stories are tragic:
A California nursing home with more than a third of residents infected with COVID-19 had to be evacuated when fearful staff didn’t show up to work.
Almost nine in 10 residents of a Massachusetts nursing home had COVID-19 infections.
The National Guard was deployed to two New Jersey nursing homes hit especially hard with COVID-19 infections.
A Pennsylvania nursing home believes all 450 residents, and its staff, have been infected with the virus.
We’re on pins and needles with my mom in the nursing home. I haven’t seen her, except via Skype, for almost a month now since they’ve stopped allowing anyone in except for staff.
The other problem blacks and Latinos, and other native populations, like Native Americans and Pacific Islanders, is that the Western diet destroys their health.
They are very prone to obesity on our diet and the complications that arise from it, like diabetes.
Too bad the nursing home patients can’t be put on the HCQ preventative regimen.
Watching the COVID survivor meeting, with POTUS/VP, now.
So far, they’re all thanking POTUS/VP for the opportunity to try the regimen.
I recently purchased central air filters for our home with a MERV 13 rating. Suppose to help reduce smaller airborne particles that carry viruses. It has certainly reduced the amount of weekly dusting we've had to do before installing these.
Congressman Warns U.S. Could Be ‘Weeks Away’ From Food Shortages
https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3835036/posts?page=6
We’ve been planning for food inflation for several years now.
Grand solar minimum related stuff. No ‘immediate’ shortages, just late freeze here, unseasonable rain or drought there, early snows somewhere else kind of food inflationary pressures.
Hubby will have to hunt seriously this winter. He usually gets a cpl decent sized ones but he’s talking about filling his tag, which he hasn’t done before.
Which means I’ll have to make sure the freezers are emptied of unnecessary stuff before hand, OR we’ll have to hope the chest freezer production lines are up before then :)
I’ve been ‘watching’ a bread maker at williams sonoma.
That one in particular because you now have to ‘preorder’ it as they’re not in stock any longer. AND WS has an ‘expected ship date’ listed.
Date was May 18-May 19 as of yesterday.
Today it’s July 9-July 10.
Yeah, China’s up and running...not.
