Jewish communities in NY continue to hold religious gatherings despite orders

The centuries-old premium Jewish communities place on religious gatherings is running headlong into the need for isolation amid the unyielding coronavirus pandemic.

Like other religious institutions, Jewish communities around the country are attempting to adapt their traditions to government guidance designed to protect against the virus' spread, like holding online services and gatherings: virtual prayer in the wake of the current epidemic. But in and around New York, authorities complain that, far from discouraging gatherings, a few Orthodox Jewish leaders are leading prayer groups, celebrations and receptions that have been specifically prohibited by emergency orders in both New York and New Jersey.

Rockland County outside New Yok City has the highest per-capita rates of COVID19 infection rate in the New York Metro area. Not by coincidence, it is also home to several large Ultra-Orthodox/Hasidic communities. Several Hasidic rabbis have died from COVID19 and instead of learning a hard lesson their funerals have seen large turnouts who knows infecting how many more. The same issue is occurring in Israel.

You will never see them complaining about gatherings in mosques.

The irony of Passover is interesting. This curse/virus is supposed to pass over your house if you have lambs blood over the door. This time it’s not helping but then again it doesn’t seem to affect children.

I dont think there is anything that could interrupt Jewish tradition. My ex was fired for mistakenly scheduling a company meeting during Jewish holiday....and yes it was a major law firm.

Yeah yeah yeah.

The Joos, the Joos

There is always someone wanting their little Judenrein world somewhere, and always a paper willing to print it. Although in this case none of the people pushing that crap wanted their name on the byline.

As well they should. Our government has fallen under the spell of hysteria on the part of dummies, the medical profession ought to be ashamed.

“Yeah yeah yeah.

It’s not The Joos, ya Schmuck!

There is a virus that spreads to others when in close proximity. Having folks all together like that is a health hazard. But in Rockland, they don’t enforce building codes, child/spousal abuse breaches, sanitation or TAXATION rules and laws with “The Jews”.

It’s not the jews, my dim-witted friend. It’s the Anti-American HAREDI lifestyle. They want to treated as “Separate”, as the book implores, but they are all Tax/Medicaid/Food Stamp/Draft Dodging Leaches.
(Correct -they don’t fight here, or in their Homeland Israel.)

Even our friends in Israel are disgusted by the Haredi.

Still waiting for the critical coverage of the mosques . . . crickets.

Kindly don’t confuse normal Hasids like me with Satmars and NKs.

Full exposure of our slime media.

Joooooooos - bad.
Nothing whatsoever about the religion of hate.

I really really will demand that we handle our media in a very very special way following CW-II.

I dont think there is anything that could interrupt Jewish tradition.

It certainly doesn't appear as if concern for others might.

“normal hasids like me”!? Do you realize how that sounds?

You can try to say that you are one of the “good Jews”, but that will never work.

It also is not fair to ask gentiles to carry a mental clip board and decide whether you are one of the”good Jews” or you are one of the Jews who should be extirpated.

We all can condemn the behavior of people who refuse to socially isolate themselves. However, once you condemn a group of Jews (the “bad hasidim?”) to calumny because you believe you are different, you are living in a fool’s paradise.

They claim they want to be a part of the communities they reside but time and time again they prove us wrong. They are not stupid people. I know many might revert to, oh he must be anti Semitic, no I am a realist. Why is every other group following the program? With the complete disregard for my health and my families health this is not about who you are but what you are

I’m not sure of the details of how they’re congregating. But what, precisely, is the relative risk of social distancing within a synagogue versus everyone staying at home? Is it really much higher? Does anyone really know?

Using the logic that I’m seeing used in this forum, even going to a supermarket or a liquor store or a gun shop makes you a murderer, because that elevates the risk. People who condemn these congregations but argue otherwise are just deciding for others what is “essential” activity, and what is not.

I thought this was a free country.

Dunno. I don’t meet with the mullahs of Iran and call for the destruction of my home in Israel (I am Israeli.)like the NKs.

They may dress the same, but they’re are very different.

I can understand their reasoning. Not being able to participate in Holy Week is “killing me.”

My heart aches. There has to be another option besides watching Catholic Mass on TV. This makes me a protestant: Pretending the host is really Christ.

I see the situation as: how strong is your faith? Are you willing to go to any lengths to have your soul fed, or do you passively sit back and wring your hands?

The ache in my heart won’t let me be passive. My soul is crying.

They do not want to be part of the community. The rules are for everyone but them. The politicans are too afraid to stand up to them. They took over Rockland County and anyone who stayed behind is nuts.

I am old emough to remember a 60 minutes show right before Mario Cuomos last election. He was dancing on the stage in Rockland with the Hadidic Jews. Happy to say Mario lost the election.

A little inconvenience does not turn a Catholic into a protestant.

B.S. the orthodox were running around the streets of Jerusalem breaking curfew with the police chasing them. Dov Hikind a leader in Brooklyn called these people idiots( his words) There’s a number of N.Y. orthodox areas that are hot spots. They are never called out their actions. I’m sure you would beat the drums, if it was black or Hispanics. I’ve lived in the NYC area for 50 years. I don’t buy anyone playing the race card!
