Amazon faced questions Friday from Capitol Hill over how the online retail giant is protecting workers at its warehouses during the ongoing deadly global coronavirus pandemic.
Sen. Bernard Sanders, Vermont independent, and Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minnesota Democrat, led a dozen other lawmakers in a letter seeking answers from Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos.
In addition to inquiring in detail about steps Amazon has taken to protect its employees during the pandemic, they asked him to ramp up those efforts to ensure they remain safe.

“In a recent message to your employees, you recognize the critical work they are doing. You encouraged your employees to take care of themselves, yet you failed to recognize the vital role that Amazon plays in guaranteeing their safety,” the lawmakers wrote.

“As the world responds to the unfolding COVID-19 crisis, Amazon has become a crucial player in the global supply chain; consumers everywhere are relying on your company to deliver the goods they need during this difficult time,” they wrote. “But as reliance on your businesses grows, so do the demands on your employees, as do the risks they face personally."
“We ask that you intensify your efforts to protect the health and safety of your warehouse workers,” they wrote. “No employee, especially those who work for one of the wealthiest corporations in the world, should be forced to work in unsafe conditions.”

My brother works for Amazon. I am no fan of Amazon but they are taking all the Govt demanded steps to protect their workers. he says it got absurd. They have management “hall monitors” watching to make sure they maintain the proper “social distancing” at all time

It’s giving them everything they always wanted: A destroyed economy, record setting unemployed, an excuse to go totalitarian, run cities like a police state. No wonder the Rat governors are now starting to ban any drug that seems to cure it. They want thing to go on as long as possible.
I am sure they would love to shut Amazon down right now. They think of every way to make people more miserable and isolated.
I hope for a day these politicians have to run fast to get away from the population they have wronged and cheated for so long.

Another thing. Everyone line worker at Amazon is getting double time pay because of the volume of freight they are shipping every day to people in lock-down. My brother is making a lot of money working 6 days a week.

If Bezos is more stridently anti-Trump, if he uses the resources of Amazon in the fight to prevent Trump from being re-elected, the politicians who are attacking Amazon will back off.
This is just a pressure tactic to get him to support their political agenda.

The workers have the option to stay home or come to work. Seems fair enough, unless you’re for the government take-over of businesses, as these congressional Communists are.
So they are now glad that a private company like this now exists to be able to keep our supplies including food flowing into homes? They no longer prefer breadlines and empty supply depots?
