Here’s The Food People Refuse To Buy Even During A Pandemic
Daily Caller ^ | March 27, 2020 | Marlo Safi

If eyes are windows to the soul, what was left behind in the grocery stores after coronavirus panic buying are windows to what Americans won’t eat even in extreme circumstances.

People began sharing pictures on social media of what items were left behind after the shopping surge. The foods — such as cauliflower crust pizza or chocolate hummus — and the empty shelves once stocked with more appetizing foods are juxtaposed.

Carrot spirals were unpopular enough that Twitter users from different Trader Joe’s locations shared their pictures of the same stacked up boxes.

Chocolate and buffalo hummus were also left behind, confirming that the flavored hummus debate hasn’t been settled.

Vegan and plant-based can be seen in proportions that appear recently stocked.

Things are so desperate here in Texas, that people are actually willing to buy salsa made in New York City.

I’ve always liked both; but I have to agree that the creamy one is my favorite.

What’s with people buying all the pasta?

It's cheap and filling and lasts a long time. It's pretty much all we're eating for dinner here.

Does anyone know what is wrong with dasani water? (just curious, I don’t buy bulk water)

Yes. It is fake water. It is what is left over after water is filtered to remove all impurities, and after evaporating them. Dasani is like air. There's nothing there.

We usually DO agree about foods! :-)

Did I ever give you my family's centuries old "THE SOUP" Hungarian recipe? It's fantastic!

Last week the entire meat counters were empty. No beef, chicken, pork, or special products. In the middle of this desert was a fully shelf of beyond meat products. Different types, flavors, and colors of pretend meat. All by itself.

Even the butcher was laughing about it. We both agreed that no one was THAT hungry yet.

WHY ?

Homemade soups are filling, delicious, some are relatively easy to make , and when made on big batches freeze well. And there are other things besides pasta that last ( rice is one ) and fill out meals of all kinds; potatoes too. And as long as you can get it, flour goes into a LOT of good things, for a starch side...bread, muffins, popovers, cakes, cookies, rolls, pies, pie crusts for pot pies, which do freeze well; FWIW.

The larger stores such a Target, Aldi, or large chain grocery only sell name brand or their store brand, that involves extra time to wrap them with their own logo and branding.

A local smaller chain has been able to keep a steady supply of TP most days by by taking what ever their distributor has on hand. Recently they have sold “commercial” TP that is commonly used by hotels, schools, etc. by the roll.
