How did Spain get its coronavirus response so wrong?
The Guardian UK ^ | 3/26/2020 | Giles Tremlett

It is one of the darkest and most dramatic moments in recent Spanish history. In the chilling table of daily dead from the coronavirus pandemic, Spain has taken top position from Italy - with 738 dying over 24 hours.

Spain is now the hotspot of the global pandemic, a ghoulish title that has been passed from country to country over four months – starting in Wuhan, China, and travelling via Iran and Italy. As it moves west, we do not know who will be next.

What went wrong? Spain had seen what happened in China and Iran. It also has Italy nearby, just 400 miles across the Mediterranean and an example of how the virus can spread rapidly and viciously inside Europe.

Yet Spaniards cannot blame that proximity. There are no land borders with Italy, while France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia – all countries that are doing much better – do have them.

This may, in fact, be one of the reasons for the country’s late response. Spain thought it was far enough away. “Spain will only have a handful of cases,” said Dr Fernando Simón, the head of medical emergencies in Madrid, on 9 February. Six weeks later he gives out daily figures of hundreds of deaths. The number of dead per capita is already three times that of Iran, and 40 times higher than China.

On 19 February, 2,500 Valencia soccer fans mixed with 40,000 Atalanta supporters for a Champions League game in Bergamo which Giorgio Gori, mayor of the Italian city, has described as “the bomb” which exploded the virus in Lombardy.

In Spain, Valencia players, fans and sports journalists were among the first to fall ill.

Japan was the first place outside of China to see a virus diagnosis confirmed... That was back in January and despite that, they have not locked down and with a population of over 160 million they only have 47 deaths.

They roughly have a little less than half the population of America. They are still open for business and they have been all along... NY City with a population of 8.6 million and currently locked down, has 365 deaths. The density of population in Japan is much greater, no lock downs and less deaths.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that wearing a mask works. The sooner Americans and New Yorkers figure that out, the better off they’ll be.

The best proof of all that lock downs do not work... China.

The province in China that they ‘locked down’ has 3,169 deaths. The rest of the country that hasn’t been locked down... 122 deaths. Lock downs are a mistake, and they have been from the start.

I’m kinda on the fence for that.

1. I believe they lie about numbers constantly

2. They implemented a harsh police state and lock-down. Geez, they implement detailed tracking and bio-monitoring - a complete 1984 scenario. I work with big data and AI/ML and the amount of data they have on people is a dream for us :) but they don’t care about people’s privacy at all.

I don’t do links well but look up Mollie Hemingway’s new article in which she debunks the study you cited yesterday.

you cannot compare Japan to other places

1. They have a very, very ordered society - if they are told to do something, they do it. They even criticize the Germans for being disorderly

2. They have a strong no-contact culture. No kissing, hugging, shaking hands.

3. They habitually wear face-masks. They have just turned up the dial a notch (to 11 for Americans or Southern Europeans).

Maybe numbers should be listed as “reported” cases etc. China probably just isn’t reporting new cases.

#14. Maybe it wasn’t a study. But that’s a statistic that Molly has debunked.

If we are relatively unscathed by this. Europe may need a “Marshall Plan” type rescue.

I agree.

As well, there has been a “cover up”, of sorts, along the West Coast, about what has really happened.

I’ll just copy and paste from an os analyst discussion, which could get a few people in trouble —

>> “... the working probably places at least 3 planes (maybe 5) with individuals from Wuhan, probably directly, entering U.S. airspace and unloading within a couple of hours the same day. It is also possible there were 1 to 2 aircraft each, which may have had carriers, and which may have landed in New York and DC, Montreal, and Rio. “Will not say the day, but this was first week of December, in time for Christmas/New Years break.”<<

Continued —

“That’s pretty slick. Send a bunch of CV19 lefty PAC12 “cultural/language” students home for US Christmas from school.”

“... Also explains the so called “unknown sources”, where people have had no contact with Chinese students or individuals.”

“... we had near no testing for this through most of December - February ... likely we have already had tens of thousands of unknown cases, maybe more. For most, it would have just been believed to be a bad flu. For a few, they were hardly impacted... all were spreading it.”

“Yep... “slippery virus”... NIH is confirming between 45X-70X virulence of H1N1a... also true, CV19 can survive three full days on plastics, steel, glass, meaning the entire distribution chain can spread this remotely... incubation has been documented at all the way to 28 days (published)... some may never even know they were carriers.”

“The panic will be opportune for Pelosi and left, and likely worse than the actual virus...”

“... did she or others know before the New Year?”

“... dude, my life would end at Levenworth!”

So yes, I was keyed into the above conversation at the very beginning of February. But no one, and i mean no one, would pay any attention. What’s worse, there were some who knew all about CV-19 well before that —

https://youtu.be/J6VEYzwSdZU

Dare anyone to listen to this video, and then say China is the good guy!

By the way, I know Dr. Cottrel from MI, and he is a strait shooter. Je still has to be careful with what he is says, as he could get into a lot of trouble. The interview is between two highly educated, anti-socialist, pro-Trump conservatives, somebon FR know.

So, yes, it is quite possible your family has experienced CV-19.

THANKS FOR REACHING BACK.

It was an article from a hospital doctor that quoted the correlation of a higher infection rate with people who had this years flu shot.

Also Italy this summer had a mandatory vaccination drive for all citizens as I quoted.

As a third issue of depressed immune function for a period of time after flu vaccination is a well known side effect. It may be better to take greater precautions if you have had a flu vaccination within 30 days.

As a forth issue, warnings have been given that those with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to serious adverse reactions to COVID.

As to it being “foolish gossip” obviously you have a strong bias. Do as you please, I was hoping for further information, not trying to insult your belief structure.

Good luck, hope it misses you and your household.

California is going that mandatory flu shot way. Governor Nusance is cancelling religious and doctors objections, despite the warning labels on the flu shot containers saying that if you have had an adverse reaction in the past DO NOT get another flu shot.

I have worked in underground metals mining and have suffered from heavy metals poisoning. I get sicker than a dog if I take a flu shot.

The fool in office thinks my possible death is worth the risk. I tend to disagree. I am not cattle with his brand that he has the right to order me to take injections that risk my life.

Lucky for me I am not from California for decades now. I am from a free State.

The flu shot was given to me some time in the early 1980’s, don’t remember exactly when. I haven’t had a flu shot since then.

Let me get this straight. You are saying that the ordinary average citizen is less likely to get CV-19 if they haven't had the Flu Shot. Nothing you have written supports that at all. It seems that your claim about mandatory flu shots in Italy is not correct.

This article was dated, 23 January 2020 14:36 CET+01:00 on a local Italian

Flu outbreak in Italy peaking as half a million people struck down in a week

Flu vaccines are recommended by the Italian health ministry for adults and children with certain health conditions, anyone aged over 65, and pregnant women due to the increased risk of serious complications caused by the virus, the ministry stated.

Also if they had to hold a "Drive", it's not mandatory.   I have sense enough to know that every Italian has a personal health record with vaccinations documented.   If it was mandatory the laggards would have been rounded up and forced to take the vaccine.

Read my prior post, it was not flu vaccine in Italy. Anybody mentions something that is not praise you get all PMS about it.

Enjoy your shots, nobody is stopping you.

Does not change anything I quoted. I am just curious about some parallel seeming patterns, should have brought my asbestos shorts.

Here is your prior post:

It was an article from a hospital doctor that quoted the correlation of a higher infection rate with people who had this years flu shot.

Also Italy this summer had a mandatory vaccination drive for all citizens as I quoted.   [Now you say this was not about the flu shot?]

What did you even mention a mandatory vaccine drive in Italy for, if the mandatory vaccine drive was not for the flu vaccine?

And I have nothing left to say...

Couldn’t find Molly’s post. Perhaps she went after the China numbers. However the rate is increasing and that is worrying
