Everything I have read is that CA has moved beyond testing just the sick (like everyone else) to “surveillance testing” where they are mailing test kits to volunteers in several counties.

It took 50-60 YEARS, and scores of waves of epidemics, for the pre-Conquest population of Mexico to drop from 20 million to 2 million. It did not all happen in the period 1521-24.

My wild-***ed guess is that the real number of CV19 fatalities in China is @ 10 million, +/-5 million, and the year is young.

This is the end of Chinese Communist dreams of grandeur. They'll be lucky to be in power ten years from now.

“Herd immunity works with a vaccination .”

Yes. That and prior exposure (which you hopefully survived).

But we don’t have a vaccine, yet. Nor even any prior exposure. So we have to use stop-start and containment to keep the most HCS- and most economy-function possible. And to have the time to develop counter measures.

Let’s hope they are looking at the genetics of both the found virus, and those who submitted samples.

Very important data.

It’s the surveillance testing that will find a path forward.

IMO the ascending death numbers, per week, won't peak until July. You should incorporate a 30-day lag period for the cycle of exposure to infection to hospitalization to death.

Even the currently exposed need at least 15 days from infection to death.

"I am expecting the death numbers to be steadily increasing right up to Easter."

Yes, but you are adding a TON of links that are not summation of the daily threads.

Maybe add those separately from the summation?

For historical purposes and all...

The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has another facility where an inmate has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to an internal memorandum obtained from a source inside of MCC New York, Warden M. Licon-Vatale released an internal memo to MCC staff stating that “an inmate who is housed at MCC New York tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, 2020.”

excuse me, but it wasn’t 90% European. Hemorrhagic fever was big in pre-colonial indian populations, as were more than a dozen jungle fever and other assorted zoologic pathogens. Caused, similar to China, and, for instance, Amazonians now, by clearing fields for ag. Former Wandering/gathering groups of usually less than 60 joined larger groups to farm, increasing chances of human contact with animal bacteria and viruseseses, and each other.

“Diseases that were probably present in pre-Columbian America included American leishmaniasis, American trypanosomiasis (Chaga’s disease), roundworms, pinworms, tapeworm, treponematosis, tuberculosis, arthritis, cancer, endocrine disorders, dysentery, pneumonia, rickettsial and viral fevers, goiter, and pinta.”

https://www.encyclopedia.com/science/encyclopedias-almanacs-transcripts-and-maps/impact-european-diseases-native-americans

Although New World indigenous disease was mostly of the chronic and episodic kind, Old World diseases were largely acute and epidemic. Different populations were affected at different times and suffered varying rates of mortality.19 Diseases such as treponemiasis and tuberculosis were already present in the New World, along with diseases such as tularemia, giardia, rabies, amebic dysentery, hepatitis, herpes, pertussis, and poliomyelitis, although the prevalence of almost all of these was probably low in any given group

Just got home from work and all I’ve heard today is that Trump just kind of called off the virus? Said we will resume life as usual on Easter? Did I miss something?

Are you playing games? I made a distinction between asymptomatic and symptomatic, yet you came back with a statistic about "80% mild or asymptomatic" which means NOTHING in the context you were talking about. Your statistic is one of the "accurate but misleading" duplicitous means of argument.

I was a civil litigator for 40 years and ate expert witnesses for breakfast. You are no expert. You have been acting very duplicitous. I wait for a better opportunity to drop the hammer.

“We’re looking better alright. Praying the decline continues. I find S.K. troubling - deaths from Corona are increasing again. Also, note the two deaths from the Diamond Princess! What’s that all about?”

In SK they still have a ton of unresolved cases. DP also. Total deaths from DP are actually 12, as there have been 2 deaths of people evacuated, one in the US and one in Canada.

This is exactly what I told the FluBros touting SK’s former 0.7% DCR as their “just the flu” conclusive evidence, never mind that it was still 7x the average flu CFR and those people had a whole country on a war footing to help them.

Now it’s 1.3%, still climbing. :(

Wish I had been wrong, but more importantly, hope I stopped them from causing more havoc. One of the more horrible things about this disease is not that it kills off the weak fast, it is that you may linger for a long time as a formerly healthy person and die, anyway.

And SK is the best example we have to go by for a large scale infection. Hope we can do better.
