Coronavirus in N.Y.: ‘Deluge’ of Cases Begins Hitting Hospitals
NY Times ^ | 03-20-2020 | Staff

New York State’s long-feared surge of coronavirus cases has begun, thrusting the medical system toward a crisis point.

In a startlingly quick ascent, officials reported on Friday that the state was closing in on 8,000 positive tests, about half the cases in the country. The number was 10 times higher than what was reported earlier in the week.

In the Bronx, doctors at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center say they have only a few remaining ventilators for patients who need them to breathe. In Brooklyn, doctors at Kings County Hospital Center say they are so low on supplies that they are reusing masks for up to a week, slathering them with hand sanitizer between shifts.

Some of the jump in New York’s cases can be traced to significantly increased testing, which the state began this week. But the escalation, and the response, could offer other states a glimpse of what might be in store if the virus continues to spread. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Friday urged residents to stay indoors and ordered nonessential businesses to keep workers home.

State officials have projected that the number of coronavirus cases in New York will peak in early May. Both the governor and Mayor Bill de Blasio have used wartime metaphors and analogies to paint a grim picture of what to expect. Officials have said the state would need to double its available hospital beds to 100,000 and could be short as many as 25,000 ventilators.

As it prepares for the worst-case projections, the state is asking retired health care workers to volunteer to help. The city is considering trying to turn the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan into a makeshift hospital.

keep pushing bullshit stats and fear media so you can get hits on your websites and run your BREAKING NEWS shows on the tv and get record breaking viewers. It’s no different than any crisis that is going to kill us all with these effers in the media. ALL FOR MONEY = RATINGS. OF COURSE people are running to the hospital. every damn crack head in NYC who has trouble breathing from their crack is calling an ambulance to go get check for COVID19 because of the fear mongering.

IL has 585 cases so far and they are running low on supplies?

They have to assume anyone/everyone has it, especially with tests short to actually confirm, and they can’t be transferring it between patients, so it’s full protection all the time—mask, visor, gloves, booties—and changing them all the time.

But in Germany there have been 19,848 confirmed cases and 68 deaths. Italy is the worst case for a number of reasons.

Take a look at the statistics from South Korea and the US. The mortality rate is far lower.

Everybody who has a cough and fever in NYC wins the Kung Flu prize.

This Kung Flu Panic is textbook Alinsky. Those cheering on the destruction of our economy seem blissfully unaware that what will rise in its wreckage is full blown AOC socialism. Dems won’t even have to hid their true agenda anymore. A majority of the American people will demand it.

Not fake news; selfishness at wanted to play a “key, important role” as professionals from DC, not like you flyover rubes.
FDA == “foot dragging administration”.
Other than getting opium out of children’s cough medicine and missing thalidomide, ...what good are they?
Oh, yeah. Dem votes and pork.

You are an ass.

We are 2 weeks behind Italy on the growth curves.
It’s 1/5th the size of the US and is having 600 deaths a day.
But keep that head firmly jammed up your butt.

Just be quiet. Italy is a standout, as nobody has had it like them. How do you calculate we are two weeks behind them on a growth curve? WHAT does that even mean really?

It’s not going to grow the same everywhere. FREEPERS pushing this lie and fear need to be banned once this hysteria dies down.

Is it their age causing panic on FR? Is it fanaticism of almost HOPING this is the end of times because the unrighteous will finally pay their price for forsaking GOD? Seriously
What is causing such blind hysteria here in FR among some??

Let me get this straight, you believe all of this over-reaction is ok?

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

2 days ago I thought like you. Yesterday I heard the head of the NIH who is a brilliant man and a Christian give that stats that equated to VERY possibly over 1,000,000,000 dead if we didn’t take the steps we are taking.

Now today we see Italy lose 672 in one day that would translate into 3000 here. In ONE day. And counting!!! There may have some different demographics but they are still flesh and blood so there is no legit reason to think things would look much different if we did not take dramatic action. Thank God Trump did.

So now please tell me your EXACT plan.

And it’s not just happening in big cities either. Here in Fresno, my dad is an NP in an urgent care facility and they are also having to reuse masks and are down to their last boxes of gloves with no ability to replenish in sight.

Total hysteria fueled by the MSM, Deep State, and the Dems. When all the data are in, I will wager that the Wuhan flu is just a little bit stronger version of the generic flu. From all the data I have seen, there are no fatalities for those 19 and under. The overwhelming majority of deaths are the elderly with underlying conditions and others with impaired immunity systems. We should protect those people and let the rest of society function. The cure is worst than the disease. Our economy has been destroyed.

We had to destroy the village in order to save it.

An effective medical system similar to ours. I have lived 4 years in Germany and two years in Italy. No comparison.

I am no expert but I really really don’t think they would take the organs of someone who died from this novel corona virus....let alone the fact that the deceased are mostly elderly with comordidities...

I found this after a quick search concerning the situation in Germany:

However, Prof Kräusslich cautioned that the picture in Germany was likely to change in the weeks and months ahead: “We are still at a relatively early stage in the outbreak in Germany. The overwhelming share of patients became infected only in the last week or two, and we will probably see more severe cases in the future as well as a change in the fatality rate.”
