We’ve never really thought about ‘curing’ viruses this way. Just vaccinating everyone.

That could very well be.
Another possibility is that the ChiComs were just playing around with the virus. Just looking at it after they smuggled it to Wuhan from Canada.
But, as always happens with Chinese construction, the BPL4 lab in Wuhan had an architectural issue. It didn’t completely fall over like many Chinese buildings, but it had a fault in its structure that let out the virus.
The rest is history.

I have yet to hear an interview with anyone who was on a ventilator. I can’t imagine coming back from what that video shows in any meaningful way.

If 80% catch it, and 20% of those are hospitalized (16), and half of those don’t make it, that seems to me to be about an 8% mortality rate in Italy now.
That's 80 times greater than the seasonal flu @ 0.1%.
I’ve read reports that they have stopped counting all of the deaths in Italy, as they are too busy and too exhausted.
We will never know the real numbers I’m afraid. At least in Italy it won’t be because of lies or saving face like China or Iran.
To me, it’s obvious.
The BSL4 facility in Wuhan accidentally released a modified SARS virus that had been stolen from a western laboratory. Or maybe it was modified in the Wuhan lab after it was stolen.
Either way, notoriously shoddy construction in China caused this modified virus to be accidentally released from the Wuhan BSL4 facility.
