In fact if I were Trump, Id call in all the big box people, Walmart, Costco etc and tell them to tell to immediately develop *temporary* policies where the panicked and greedy can only have two cases of water per person or 3 bottles of hand sanitizer, etc...No more BS where ya see people rolling out with 3 full baskets of tissues, water, sanitizer etc.
Id put of quick stop to that nonsense.
I’d support it.
But there should be some exceptions made.
Plus keep in mind that the tighter the limits are, the more often people have to come back into the store, and thus you’re defeating social distancing.
Families with lots of kids are going to need more.
Not sure what proof you would need for that.
Some people are buying for others. Again, what proof.
Some might be buying for institutions. You wouldn’t want a nursing home or a restaurant limited on sanitation products or food.
Sure.
Stores do this on their own already.
My employer (a Midwest grocery store chain) told the managers to make sure there was enough of those items to go around. They gave them the flexibility to devise their own purchase limit policies. They don’t want their customers to leave the store empty-handed. The signs I’ve seen in several stores explain it as a policy of neighborliness. The customers appreciate it. If other stores can’t run their businesses properly, I don’t think the President can show them how.
“Just remember....people are not going to use MORE than before...especially things like toilet paper.”
Not really. Think of a generic family that is now home 24/7. Previously they spent most of the week at the office/school. Whatever the metrics, they are now home more. That means more TP. Really.
OTOH, everyone should always have extras of stuff they use every day. Like soap, cleanser, face wash, saline solution for contacts, etc. We always fill up at 1/2 tank of gas. Always. Even if your are poor, you can do that.
Shelves will be full in a couple of days.
I haven’t read Rabelaise in decades. FReepers are among the most erudite people in the world.
Learn the difference between a simple request and a mandate. No one suggested this be made law. Only a request to stop the mindless hoarding of the panicked and the greedy.
your = you’re
Yes and request by Trump is not.
We supply water and coffee and snacks for clients as well as paper towels, paper plates, plastic wear, toilet paper etc fir the office. This time of year we go thru bottled water pretty quickly.
I was at HEB today and it was totally out of paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning supplies.
Lots of frozen foods wiped out no apples but there was a ton of frozen shrimp.
Probably going to sell it on ebay for crazy price.
A gubbmint REQUEST quickly becomes a reason to fine you and take your money. Want that?
Bingo.
Haters gonna hate.
And they cant read well either.
I hear that people are selling these sold-out items on eBay.
Don’t know if that is true or not.
How can that be?
Lots of people here said the stores are already limiting purchases of the items being hoarded by the panicked and the greedy.
Btw, I understand. Even in smaller towns this is going on. It’s BS. And to be honest, I’m more alarmed by the panic buying and the greedy, than this Chicom cootie.
I would support a REQUEST 100%. I would not support some presidential edict commanding them to limit sales. We do not want a president to be able to put limits on the number of anything we can buy. The stores can put limits on the items. Those who continuously call for expanding federal authority into states rights need to step back and think about the ramifications. This includes a national voter ID. If we cross that rubicon. We are one step closer to making the president a king. Im all for verifying immigration status prior to voting. Just be careful that it doesnt increase federalism.
Hand sanitizer is important to use when you are out and can't wash your hands. You will be surprised by how many restaurants that currently have sanitizer will run out.
That is really going to piss people off. You might as well just go out and campaign for Bernie, because they'll blame it on Trump.
Oh well. If the country is so fragile and ignorant to not understand why their own hysteria has consequences, we are doomed.
