We are testing everyone who needs to be tested.
President Trump.
826 deaths in Italy. Prayers up for Italy and those families.
We have a campus in/near Northern Italy and they are locked down
The problem is their definition of who needs to be tested. Biogen had a super spreader...so boston is going to have community spreading..as will indiana perhaps since biogen spread it there
When you check the country links for daily cases, this is following a pretty predictable spike wherein there is a slow ramp up followed by a noticeable decline in daily cases. China, S. Korea, France, and now Iran have seen noticeable daily declines in cases. The US hit 162 cases yesterday which has been our high. My guess is that we will probably either peak or start coming down pretty quickly. The only reason the perception of this that it is growing is that there are more countries seeing cases, which drives the overall numbers up, but on a country by country basis this virus seems to have a pretty predictable linear pattern. Will be watching Italy over the next few days as that seems to be an outlier but should start coming down fairly soon.

This is what I’ve been looking for. I just wish it had more of an explanation.
looks like they gave up

Quarantine: With the shift from containment to mitigation, it is no longer necessary for someone who has been in contact with someone with COVID-19 to quarantine for 14 days. This applies to the general public, as well as health care workers and first responders.
I know...why bother. Its just the flu. Yawn....
Except we havent begun testing. And people are walking into this country with no testing.
We havent really even started rising yet. We wont peak for a while.
Thank you, Vermont Lt, for starting Coronavirus Thread No. 13!
I read one of the communities in Indiana where a Biogen attendee lives closed schools for a month after one student tested positive. The Health Department also prohibited parents from taking any school age kids in the community to daycare. This seems to be a very aggressive response. Makes one wonder if Pence (former Governor of Indiana) is using Indiana as an example of his plan.
The case doubling rate is fairly constant at doubling every two days...

“Quarantine: With the shift from containment to mitigation, it is no longer necessary for someone who has been in contact with someone with COVID-19 to quarantine for 14 days. This applies to the general public, as well as health care workers and first responders. However, if they develop respiratory symptoms, they should stay home in order to protect those who are well.”
That seems really irresponsible. My wife helps elderly neighbors. One of which is at a facility with confirmed CV patients - which she has visited. We are waiting on “expert” advice, but are prepared to go on self- isolation.
The two adults in Indiana were from Biogen conferance. I think not in same household but could have traveled together, etc
I haven’t seen if this child is connected to those two.
This will have a ripple effect because many parents are not equipped to suddenly have kids home from school for weeks
281 new cases and 5 new deaths in Spain [source]
881 new cases and 54 new deaths in Iran [source]
The US is way behind in testing, but catching up. We can expect a very significant rise in cases the next few weeks as testing capacity increases.
It will only validate what we’ve known for a while—that COVID has been circulating in some areas of the country for weeks.
If the first thing you do when you panic is buy toilet paper.
You suck at panicking.
