https://time.com/5610878/2018-2019-flu-season/

Even still, high early-season vaccination rates and a relatively effective annual vaccine appeared to help suppress illnesses. In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died. That’s fairly on par with a typical season, and well below the CDC’s 2017-2018 estimates of 48.8 million illnesses, 959,000 hospitalizations and 79,400 deaths.
........................
So if you do the math the normal flu-virus we get here in the US yields about a 2% death rate. 1.65% by my math for the most recent period.
I think we will find that the corona virus is about half that as far as the death rate goes.Current stats will probably support that.
So why is everyone so exercised that we are in the midst of collapsing the economy!!
Since this is a political forum much of the time let's delve into the possible political aspects of covid 19 and it's ramifications.
We just went through several years of “get Trump any way possible” by the dems and the drivebys. They will do anything to get rid of Trump, slow him down or make him look bad.
The false impeachment of our President was a perfect example. Why not make up stuff get a fisa warrant on basically nothing but lies and then use that as a basis to impeach the president.?
They did. He was impeached and it was a miserable failure. His numbers only went higher.
The dems have learned that impeachment was a horrible mistake. Now they need to get it out of the news cycle.Problem is it has to be replaced by something.Something as powerful or even more so if possible. They never give up. Anything that can possibly be used against our President to keep him from winning even if it means collapsing the world economy and scaring the population to death will work for their needs.
How about Covid 19? Would that work? My guess is they think it will. Are they all out using it against Trump? Not so far that we can tell. But is that on the way? You betcha.

So do we fall right into their hands by promoting the dire consequences of covid 19.Especially, when we have first hand evidence that it's likely not as deadly as the common flu!!? Most likely.
The more we push the driveby,DNC,stop everyone from coming in mantra, stop this get together, the better it is for the dems worse for us. Shortages in this and that, eliminating anything that might create more potential to catch a virus that is not as deadly as the common flu but hyped up to scare the crap out of everything is what they want.
The more we do this are we basically carrying the driveby/dnc line for them? Are we doing their job of collapsing the Trump economy which he basically is running on as his key accomplishment.?Looks like it.
Also do they have him in a hold position boxed in. a position where if he says what “we can and should say” that “its all bullsh_t” and we should just go about our business like we do in normal flu seasons everything will work out? If he dares say that the drivebys will come down on/crucify him like a ton of bricks. But, if we say it we can kill them off,is that the case,I think it is.
Also i think its what we should be doing.

Even if another American never sniffles from this, the supply chain crash is pretty much baked into the cake at this point.

Do you or anyone you know take meds? China hasn’t shipped those for nearly 2 months now.

What about parts for your car like brake pads or windshield wipers?

Ditto.

China is a single point of failure for the economy of nearly every developed nation.

That includes us too btw.

In the end it does not matter what we say about the virus.

It will do what it will do.

That said, please check out the videos on this site—lots of detail, lots of facts, lots of data, lots of evidence:

As someone who worked closely with nurses for a while, I have come to detest their unions. The unions will tell the nurses not to do anything not in their contracts. Everything is a negotiation.

The unions will cost lives.

Nurses are nice to patients. Floor nurses suck to work with. As with any other worker in America, they hate anything new, or in addition to their current tasks. And the ones I worked with could not be counted on to follow the simplest, non clinical directions (things like inventory, fire alarms, emergency communications, stuff like that.)

As for the election—at this point it feels like it is a century away.

We just need to get through March and April at this point.

but at what point are they shedding? 2 days before symptoms? 1 day? at what point does the viral load maximize?

Some good news!!

I saw the St Cecilia notice, last night.

I think many of the Catholic churches are changing/considereing changing the communion process, during this outbreak.

Many churches are saying to not shake hands, hug, etc.

Our pastor sent an email out basically saying...If you don’t feel good, don’t come to church! With a link to the streaming feature.

IIRC, a few threads ago....someone’s dr said that people still go to church, even when they’re sick :(

Getting ready to dehydrate more broccoli. After that, a ton of frozen carrots.

“Amid worries about the global coronavirus outbreak, a 13-year-old Vietnamese American student at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood is alleging that he was singled out by his teacher — and ultimately forced to transfer classes — after coughing in his honors science class.”

As people (finally) learn to focus on things that are important, rather than first-world problems, I think that even DEMOCRAT judges will be throwing out cases like this one.

You can make Jerky too. My SIL pays $9 an ounce. I can make a couple of pounds of better jerky for a lot less.

True but all the more reason we should try and get things back to normal not enhance the plan by the drivebys and the dnc to blame everything on Trump.

The best (and most evil) thing we’ve found to dehydrate is mini marshmallows.

Put them on the tray, at the ‘fruit’ temperature.

Leave them there for 3-4 hrs or so.

Remove tray and IMMEDIATELY put them into a ziploc bag and seal it (don’t let them cool off outside the bag!).

Once they’re cool, they’re delicious. But keep the bag sealed when you’re not eating them, they will get sticky and messy fast.

“Now you can panic... :-)”

I told you, I panicked last Tuesday, as planned. No plans to panic again, until a week from Wednesday.

How do you propose we ‘get things back to normal’?

Things wrt medicine might not be normal for months.

China has already said any production post epidemic will be for their OWN use for the forseeable future.

It will take years to make all those meds here again. We don’t have the equipment to MAKE the equipment to make those anymore. OR anyone who really knows how to do it. Our last penicillin fermenter closed in ‘04. The guy who ran that shop floor is probably in his early 70’s right now. There are no 30 somethings in this country that have ever done that.

It’s not Trump’s fault to be sure (it’s bush, clinton, bush, obama).

But denying there’s a problem and insisting any mention of a problem is ‘out to get trump’ is the rightie equivalent of TDS. It’s disconnected from reality.

“Anything that helps to reduce your viral load is beneficial.”

Hard to argue against that, but to me at least, it’s on the margins, relative to the load needed to reach ‘critical mass’. Anyway, I will probably start doing a bit of wiping down, it’s not like I’m going to run out of wipes for my next 3 lifetimes or something.

Remember when the FEMA woman called preppers every name in the book? She’ll be starving and banging on her neighbors’ doors. I bought the last lonely can of spinach a few day ago so chastise me. Sticks and stones. If I’d left it on the shelf, I’d be the good person but the person 2 minutes behind me would be the bad person when they put it in their cart. Snort, not sorry one bit it is now in my pantry. The only thing I did wrong was getting to the spinach party late.

If people can’t afford $5 for a small pkg of tp, maybe they shouldn’t have gone to the bar last night, bought an overpriced Starbucks this morning, got a tattoo or a piercing in an unmentionable spot or bought a $50+ carton of cigarettes. There’s a huge difference between wants and needs.
