He is saying this unknown infected person had the same virus as the first infected person in the US. That means community transmission possible for 6 weeks.
*************************************************************************************
Ok thanks to you both. Did he say if they have figured out how that happened? Are they trying to do any notification of this person’s contacts or is that a moot point now?

Contact tracing is probably why many people are being tested now. Either that or they are testing everyone at that Long Term Facility. We could have 100 to 200 infected just at that facility. Already over 50 showing symptoms. And then all their contacts. Looks like Wuhan thanks to the CDC/P. What a nightmare. A race against time that you are guaranteed to lose. This is what we all wanted to avoid.

The original case they did track the guy’s movements and his “close” contacts. I hope by now they realize it can transmit even without being “close”.

The CDC is sending a team to Washington state, which I presume in part is to do tracking of the recent cases and who the people may have come in contact with.

On the original guy, I read an article where the doctor that admitted him notified the CDC, but when informed it would take the CDC a couple of days to get there, the doctor took it upon themselves to question the patient and had his own team start contacting friends, relatives and others to notify them and put then on stay-at-home restrictions and to monitor them.

Hate to hear that. Thanks. I do not recall the CDC ever being particularly competent with this sort of thing.

I wonder if the doctor is former military? I’ve read that our guys are trained to think for themselves, and to adapt and improvise and deal with things as they come. Whereas in the Communist countries they must send the information up the chain of command and then wait until they get an answer in return. Hmm - in re-reading the below, I guess in most armies they need to do that.

Reminded me of this great article on American soldiers in Afghanistan. Written by a French soldier - in awe of our guys.

https://warriorlodge.com/blogs/news/16298760-a-french-soldiers-view-of-us-soldiers-in-afghanistan

The entire article is great. Here is an excerpt:

This, in fact, is the basic philosophy of both British and Continental soldiers. ‘In the absence of orders, take a defensive position.’ Indeed, virtually every army in the world.

The American soldier and Marine, however, are imbued from early in their training with the ethos: In the Absence of Orders: Attack! Where other forces, for good or ill, will wait for precise orders and plans to respond to an attack or any other ‘incident’, the American force will simply go, counting on firepower and SOP to carry the day.

I’ve been impressed with Singapore’s response so far. They seem to be keeping it contained, and have good tracking. When I looked today, they only had 102 cases and 72 had recovered with no deaths so far.

I love our military—not necessarily the political type generals, but our guys are all volunteers which make them heroes to me. Thanks for the article.

Yeah we need a specific organization going forward that has prevention and not control as it’s only purpose. And we have to get these political zealots on both sides of the aisle out of the government.

Maybe not sabotage, but think back to 9/11. One of the big reasons 9/11 happened was a number of agencies were not properly communicating with each other. Each agency was operating under different priorities and protocols.

CDC/FDA etc. don’t operate or even exist for the same reasons. So communication is muddled. VP Pence was put in charge to help streamline that and make sure both agencies are focused on the priority of the nation.

VP Pence at yesterday’s press conference was amazing. I liked his tone, his confidence, and clarity. While the news being delivered wasn’t stellar, he made me feel calm. 10 minutes later I was stressed out again...but Pence’s tone was calming.

“India starts hunt for alternatives to China to source over 1K items”

Anyone here getting around to it, or are we still in the ‘happy talk’ mode? Or do I even need to ask?

“Time to bring it up another level. Grocery shopping at night, etc.”

Same here, off-hours to the extent possible for shopping. Been in that mode for weeks now. Getting close to pulling it all in working from home. One has to be a loon to think the virus isn’t all over the place here, considering we’ve had something like 2 million people come here from China (many/most Americans, but it doesn’t matter), and somehow none of them bothered to bring it with them?
