My sense here in Western Texas is people are in the shocked phase the past couple of days. Soon they will realize the situation and they will enter the panicked stage. Typified by heading to walmart to buy 25 large cans of lysol each. And just like that, in two hours, Walmart is emptied. Lol.
It is available, but mostly on Chinese social media web sites. There are some people gathering and translating material, or producing material in English.

I’m trying to remember the posters name...but week before last he was saying ‘prep and buy your stuff now so the stores can restock in time for more people to prep before it’s too late to prep’. Or words to that effect.
So we started actually week before last.
I know it’s likely we’ve forgotten something. But really we’re doing ‘cane prep 3 or 4 months early.
And, the beans and rice :)

I wouldn’t worry about Trump. If this turns out to be a big nothing, he skates.
If it turns out as bad as China, the entire government will fall. So again, not likely The Deep State will have anything to do about it.
I think Trump knows what it is, where it came from, and that they cannot stop it. So, business as usual to keep “ the children” from getting scared.
Just make sure we don’t find dead cats under the hoard, OK?

Not sure where in TX she is, but I remember the stories of the German women here walking to Fort McKavett, and picking undigested corn out of the horse poop of the American soldiers there.
There was a drought, crop failures, and the US soldiers’ horses were a priority over starving humans. Fort McKavett is a long walk from Fredericksburg, TX.
I doubt they will smoosh. I have a Hostess Cupcake on a shelf in my office for 3 months exposed to air. It has no mold, fungus, etc. It seems almost indestructible.
Best decision I made not to eat that thing.

I just vacuum packed about 10, 16 oz (frozen) bags of dehydrated broccoli, as well as carrots.
May do some more, tomorrow.

you’ve given me an idea.
Mainly that rice + dehydrated broccoli thrown in when the rice is cooking + white cheese powder added later would be decent. with a dash of garlic powder and some salt.
Have no idea why the government tends to ridicule private prepping and hoarding. Apparently they think we should rely on them for food during a pandemic just like we rely on them for testing during a pandemic.
We eat rice quite a bit and keep it in 4 gal buckets that we get from the grocery store bakery. Frosting comes in them and they either give them away, charge you 2 bucks or toss them.(I’ve dumpster dived twice - only get them if they’re up top and still clean) We keep two of those and rotate. No freezer, no bugs. Now flour, you have to freeze to kill the bug eggs. We always have beans stocked to go with the rice but I’m the only one that likes them so I have to toss and restock once a year. They’re legumes so they fix nitrogen into the soil where I toss them. I buy sugar in the fall when it’s dirt cheap and do the same two, 4 gallon bucket rotation. I save enough on sugar to pay for those beans. I do the shopping because my wife sucks at it. I’ve had some cashiers say “wow” or “nice job” when they do that, “you saved such and such today”. Total $45 minus $13 etc. I don’t buy what we need because we have enough for at least a month. I buy what’s on sale. Whole chicken, buck a pound, spatchcock it, stick it in the oven, make some yellow rice and a veggie. Less than $2 per person for the four of us an have enough leftovers for two people to have lunch tomorrow.
Well this is turning into a prepper, frugality thread. They do go hand in hand. Shopping actually becomes a fun sport but I still want a big garden because it just tastes so much better.
