many people are saying. I just posted an article of someone who has an Aunt there that says you can’t get into the hospital. It’s worthless at this point.

Saw where Wuhan is building a second hospital. It amazes me that it can be done so quickly. And where do they get all of that medical equipment. I guess it can be done when everything is made in china

will they even let it land? and why would you import 500 potential cases unless you’re prepared to quarantee them?

Nope. The issue isn't the conditional death rate (or, technically, the case fatality ratio/CFR) of 3% or 0.5%. The issue is the likelihood of infection AND CFR. The HK pandemic was impactful because lots of people got it. So far, this thing in China isn't that contagious. Thus, a 3% CFR isn't scary if it's unlikely you'll catch it. It's like AIDS.

I don't trust their government, or the data that much but I'll analyze it because it's what we've got. I will also weigh humanity's predeliction to overhype and freak out when it comes to pandemics and scale back the current hysteria accordingly. Throw it all into the blender, and I get a good smoothie vs pickled herring.

Thanks for the challenge.

I still chuckle when it snows..even if it is predicted just an inch.. and people clear the shelves like it is Armageddon. I think of that viral video of the guy going I have to get the bread and milk

Oh yeah, it wasn’t my first adult book, Hound of the Baskervilles or Animal Farm got that, but I was still young enough that it was a great thriller....but then it didn’t seem like it could be real. Today, it seems like it could be...

Are they building a hospital or a cemetery?

Because I think the dead are going to be the major problem for a LONG time

I would imagine they will do fine, unless the container ships stop. And, if they get sick too.

This is how this becomes a bad situation. With everyone on JIT deliveries in the corporate world, things could get nasty quickly.

The Ro rate is estimated between 2.5 and higher. At the low end, this is almost Spanish Flu level.

Flights are arriving to US from China. If I was a flight attendant for these airlines I would have already quit.

Right now it takes Target and Walmart one month to restock office Supplies. Still waiting. And that’s through their existing distribution. With no problems lol.

"So far, this thing in China isn't that contagious."

Where are you getting your information on the transmission rates? Please tell me.

We all hope you are right, but maybe you just like to argue, or you are drunk or something. Who knows?

Here is one source I posted earlier:

"HOLY MOTHER OF GOD - the new coronavirus is a 3.8!!! How bad is that reproductive R0 value? It is thermonuclear pandemic level bad - never seen an actual virality coefficient outside of Twitter in my entire career. I’m not exaggerating... #WuhanCoronovirus #CoronavirusOutbreak"

They are nuts to allow any evacuations from Wuhan at all.

I've addressed the quarantine elsewhere but I'll do it again here.

In short, I put their government's honesty, concern for the safety of their citizens, and intent to do the right thing up their with Hillary in Benghazi. As such, to what benefit is all of this "transparency" and forced sheltering-in?

I don't doubt there MAY be a bad flu or something. But with their 4Q2019 GDP growth being the lowest in 29 years, if they can blame a bad pandemic vs poor fundamentals for economic weakness, then investors may be inclined to keep funds flowing to PRC.

It was Rahm Emanuel who said you shouldn't let a crisis go to waste. I simply think the Chinese govt is following Rahm's advice.

I am not a statistical type of gal. Dont even know why I took it in college.

But it seems to me that the rate has been skewed by the fact that they gathered 10k people together to eat to break a world record after cases had been diagnosed. I dont have a link. everything i look at that talks about it is behind a paywall
