I have had a ton of talks with my doctor about this. It usually takes 10 years to cause a major issue from diagnosis to becoming legally blind and not all people do become legally blind. I’m also going to tell you your vegan diet will be an issue. You need to stick to chicken and fish and avoid high protein foods that include beef, pork, lamb, all of my favorite meats ;( and nonmeat items like milk, cheese, yogurt, whole-grain cereals, whole-wheat bread, etc. they gave me a huge list. Did they say if it was “dry” or “wet”? Wet usually causes blindness in 10% over a 10 year period, but injections help big time. Most people only lose partial vision over this time frame. I was told opera glasses are a wonderful thing as it progresses from bad to very bad.

As a side note, things can work out for a long while before you will have issues from it. After 3 eye surgeries, my glasses came in yesterday going to pick them up on Tuesday. I have been cleared to drive again during the day only with the glasses, but have to wait for the medical release from Sec. of State before I can drive even after I get my glasses. Doctor sent in the release, but he said it can take at least 30+ days for the State to document it and not to drive before I get a letter from the State that verifies it.
