Government retirement isn’t as attractive as it used to be, the pension part is roughly 50% of the pre-1985 system. The rest is made up by a 401k type of plan plus reduced social security. Anyway You could zero out government salaries and we’re still going over a financial cliff. Its entitlements that are killing us. Actual government operations & maintenance spending (of which salaries are a part!) is now around 40%-30% of the budget & decreasing.
